Mobility and Globalization in the Aftermath of COVID-19 - Emerging New Geographies in a Locked World (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021):... Mobility and Globalization in the Aftermath of COVID-19 - Emerging New Geographies in a Locked World (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Maximiliano E. Korstanje, Babu George
R3,302 Discovery Miles 33 020 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book argues that COVID-19 revives a much deeper climate of terror which was instilled by terrorism and the War on Terror originally declared by Bush's administration in 2001. It discusses critically not only the consequences of COVID-19 on our daily lives but also "the end of hospitality", at least as we know it. Since COVID-19 started spreading across the globe, it affected not only the tourism industry but also ground global trade to a halt. Governments adopted restrictive measures to stop the spread of the virus, including the closure of borders, and airspace, the introduction of strict lockdowns and social distancing, much of which led to large-scale cancellations of international and domestic flights. This book explores how global tourists, who were largely considered ambassadors of democratic and prosperous societies in the pre-pandemic days, have suddenly become undesired guests.

Service Excellence for Sustainability - Lessons from Malaysia, Japan, and Taiwan (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Nur Fazidah Elias,... Service Excellence for Sustainability - Lessons from Malaysia, Japan, and Taiwan (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Nur Fazidah Elias, Ruzzakiah Jenal, Hazilah Mohd Amin, Hazura Mohamed, Siti Aishah Hanawi
R3,962 Discovery Miles 39 620 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides significant conceptual and empirical contributions to the understanding of service science and the practices of service sectors in the wake of the fourth industrial revolution bringing together a collection of articles written by keynote and invited speakers at the 2nd Service Science Symposium held on 24 November 2019. The symposium was organised by the Serviceology Society Malaysia (SESMA), which aims to bring service researchers and practitioners under one roof to redefine service concepts and ideas and explore their application in real industrial and community settings. In their contributions, authors present multiple real-world cases of service systems to demonstrate how organisations can incorporate service science to achieve sustainable development. By re-examining the existing service science models and the value creation process using valuable insights obtained from industries and communities in Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan, the authors present a new way forward for organisations.

Mobility-as-a-Service - The Convergence of Automotive and Mobility Industries (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Malte Ackermann Mobility-as-a-Service - The Convergence of Automotive and Mobility Industries (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Malte Ackermann
R1,366 Discovery Miles 13 660 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The advent of mobility-as-a-service and the disruption of the automotive industry are both overlapping and fuelled by the same developments and thus raise a very fundamental question: are we at peak car? Based on the author's extensive field research, academic study, and professional experience, this book explores this very question as well as the underlying social, economic, generational, and regulatory changes that lead to a new mobility regime. Through rich descriptions of established OEMs and mobility start-ups, it discusses the current forms of mobility and the promise of autonomous technology. It further explores the strategic dimension of these developments so as to navigate and succeed within the disruptive and ever-changing environment of mobility services.

Health Economics Research in Developing Countries (Hardcover): Anne Mills, Kenneth Lee Health Economics Research in Developing Countries (Hardcover)
Anne Mills, Kenneth Lee
R1,735 Discovery Miles 17 350 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In 1983 The Economics of Health in Devloping Countries was published. This was a basic text, designed to illuminate ways in which economic concepts and techniques can be applied to health and health services, each chapter reviewing the state of the art' in a particular area. Since 1983, there has been a rapidly growing interest in this field. One striking feature has been considerably increased research effort, providing the basis for this publication which presents a number of empirical studies in order both to clarify research methodologies and report research results that are of key importance to policy-makers. Those economists most active in researching the health sector in developing countries were invited to contribute chapters: all have direct experience of working in developing countries, whether for governments, educational institutions, or international agencies.
This book will be of use to all those interested (as policy-makers, managers, academics, and students) in economic issues concerning the health sector, and in the application of the concepts and techniques of health economics to improve the efficiency and equity of resource use in the developing world.

Tourism and Regional Science - New Roads (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Soushi Suzuki, Karima Kourtit, Peter Nijkamp Tourism and Regional Science - New Roads (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Soushi Suzuki, Karima Kourtit, Peter Nijkamp
R4,667 Discovery Miles 46 670 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides new roads, perspectives, and a synthesis for tourism and regional science research. Tourism has become one of the most dynamic sectors in the economy and has exhibited a structurally growing importance over the past decades. In many countries the economic significance of tourism now exceeds that of traditionally strong sectors like agriculture or transportation. It is noteworthy that in recent times, tourism research has gained great momentum from the perspective of: the leisure society; the psychological tension between hard work and a more relaxed lifestyle; and the productivity-enhancing or productivity-diminishing effects of leisure, recreation, and tourism. An abundance of new literature in the field of tourism management can also be found, for instance, in the areas of hospitality management, cultural events management, destination competitiveness policy and marketing, and transportation and logistics strategies, while much attention is also being paid to the opportunities provided by digital technology for the tourism sector. In addition, in the light of the many negative externalities of a rapidly growing tourism sector, there is also an abundant literature on the environmental and sustainability effects of tourism. This book has the following objectives: to explore the interwoven connection between regional science and tourism research; to suggest promising pathways for innovative regional science research at the interface of tourism and space; and to demonstrate the need for a new perspective on the tourism and regional science nexus by means of empirical studies.

The approach is multidisciplinary. Both local and global perspectives are presented by authors from Africa, Europe, North America, and Asia, with inclusion of intra- and inter-country comparisons. Tropical Constrained Environments and Sustainable Adaptations - Businesses and Communities (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021): Simona... Tropical Constrained Environments and Sustainable Adaptations - Businesses and Communities (Paperback, 1st ed. 2021)
Simona Azzali, K Thirumaran
R2,646 Discovery Miles 26 460 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book investigates resource-constrained environments in the tropics and subtropics where people's lives and businesses are affected, and adaptations occur periodically. Constrained environments are unique territories characterised by challenging circumstances, limited land and natural resources. They can be places with a small municipal boundary or cities in which parts around them may be consumed by ocean, bay or mountains. Those places face hard physical boundaries like coastlines and mountains, which in addition to policy decisions that may limit height or density, can also serve to limit capacity for expansion. Successful communities and businesses tend to survive in a changing environment given their strong intuitive and forward-looking adaptations. This book delves into the role of urban planning and design in the promotion of business and adaptations of people and communities. Additionally, the focus takes into account impact analysis and the effects of an expanding populations, including growing migrant flows, and business needs on the built environment of land-constrained territories

The Next Supper - The End of Restaurants as We Knew Them, and What Comes After (Hardcover): Corey Mintz The Next Supper - The End of Restaurants as We Knew Them, and What Comes After (Hardcover)
Corey Mintz
R717 R640 Discovery Miles 6 400 Save R77 (11%) Ships in 9 - 17 working days

In the years before the pandemic, the restaurant business was booming. Americans spent more than half of their annual food budgets dining out. In a generation, chefs had gone from behind-the-scenes laborers to TV stars. The arrival of Uber Eats, DoorDash, and other meal delivery apps was overtaking home cooking. Beneath all that growth lurked serious problems. Many of the best restaurants in the world employed unpaid cooks. Meal delivery apps were putting restaurants out of business. And all that dining out meant dramatically less healthy diets. The industry may have been booming, but it also desperately needed to change. Then, along came COVID-19. From the farm to the street-side patio, from the sweaty kitchen to the swarm of delivery vehicles buzzing about our cities, everything about the restaurant business is changing, for better or worse. The Next Supper tells this story and offers clear and essential advice for what and how to eat to ensure the well-being of cooks and waitstaff, not to mention our bodies and the environment. The Next Supper reminds us that breaking bread is an essential human activity and charts a path to preserving the joy of eating out in a turbulent era.

This book serves as a useful resource for business practitioners and academics in the areas of service management and marketing responses during a pandemic. Each chapter deals with specific current issues within these industries due to COVID-19 and issues that will come up post-pandemic. As COVID-19 is expected to change the service practice and promote the utilization of novel methods, such as untact marketing, untact service, telecommuting, alternative work arrangements, job crafting, and new work skills, a range of examples and cases are provided to elaborate on applying these emerging new concepts within the service sector.

This book reviews empirical and theoretical research on sustainable development in the context of leisure management for communities. Although leading research centers are pursuing interdisciplinary research on leisure in the context of sustainable development, there are still few papers that holistically address the current challenges in this area. In addition, demographic changes have made the promotion of a healthy lifestyle essential. Doing so requires responsible behavior on the part of various stakeholders in this market. This book fills an important gap in the literature and gathers contributions from an interdisciplinary and international team of authors, whose fields of expertise include human geography, management, intersections of sustainability and leisure, behavioral psychology and tourism.

The Valley of the Kings - A Site Management Handbook (Hardcover): Kent R. Weeks, Nigel J. Hetherington The Valley of the Kings - A Site Management Handbook (Hardcover)
Kent R. Weeks, Nigel J. Hetherington
R914 Discovery Miles 9 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

During the New Kingdom (c. 1570-1070 BCE), the Valley of the Kings was the burial place of Egypt's pharaohs, including such powerful and famous rulers as Amenhotep III, Rameses II, and Tutankhamen. They were buried here in large and beautifully decorated tombs that have become among the country's most visited archaeological sites. The tourists contribute millions of badly needed dollars to Egypt's economy. But because of inadequate planning, these same visitors are destroying the very tombs they come to see. Crowding, pollution, changes in the tombs' air quality, ever-growing tourist infrastructure-all pose serious threats to the Valley's survival.
This volume, the result of twenty-five years of work by the Theban Mapping Project at the American University in Cairo, traces the history of the Valley of the Kings and offers specific proposals to manage the site and protect its fragile contents. At the same time, it recognizes the need to provide a positive experience for the thousands of visitors who flock here daily. This is the first major management plan developed for any Egyptian archaeological site, and as its proposals are implemented, they offer a replicable model for archaeologists, conservators, and site managers throughout Egypt and the region.
Published in both English and Arabic editions and supported by the World Monuments Fund, this critical study will help to ensure the survival of Egypt's patrimony in a manner compatible with the country's heavy reliance on tourism income.
