This book argues that COVID-19 revives a much deeper climate of terror which was instilled by terrorism and the War on Terror originally declared by Bush's administration in 2001. It discusses critically not only the consequences of COVID-19 on our daily lives but also "the end of hospitality", at least as we know it. Since COVID-19 started spreading across the globe, it affected not only the tourism industry but also ground global trade to a halt. Governments adopted restrictive measures to stop the spread of the virus, including the closure of borders, and airspace, the introduction of strict lockdowns and social distancing, much of which led to large-scale cancellations of international and domestic flights. This book explores how global tourists, who were largely considered ambassadors of democratic and prosperous societies in the pre-pandemic days, have suddenly become undesired guests.
This book provides significant conceptual and empirical contributions to the understanding of service science and the practices of service sectors in the wake of the fourth industrial revolution bringing together a collection of articles written by keynote and invited speakers at the 2nd Service Science Symposium held on 24 November 2019. The symposium was organised by the Serviceology Society Malaysia (SESMA), which aims to bring service researchers and practitioners under one roof to redefine service concepts and ideas and explore their application in real industrial and community settings. In their contributions, authors present multiple real-world cases of service systems to demonstrate how organisations can incorporate service science to achieve sustainable development. By re-examining the existing service science models and the value creation process using valuable insights obtained from industries and communities in Malaysia, Japan and Taiwan, the authors present a new way forward for organisations.

This book provides new roads, perspectives, and a synthesis for tourism and regional science research. Tourism has become one of the most dynamic sectors in the economy and has exhibited a structurally growing importance over the past decades. In many countries the economic significance of tourism now exceeds that of traditionally strong sectors like agriculture or transportation. It is noteworthy that in recent times, tourism research has gained great momentum from the perspective of: the leisure society; the psychological tension between hard work and a more relaxed lifestyle; and the productivity-enhancing or productivity-diminishing effects of leisure, recreation, and tourism. An abundance of new literature in the field of tourism management can also be found, for instance, in the areas of hospitality management, cultural events management, destination competitiveness policy and marketing, and transportation and logistics strategies, while much attention is also being paid to the opportunities provided by digital technology for the tourism sector. In addition, in the light of the many negative externalities of a rapidly growing tourism sector, there is also an abundant literature on the environmental and sustainability effects of tourism.
