This is an interdisciplinary book that presents the applications of
novel laser spectroscopy and imaging techniques for the detection
of cancers recently developed by some of the world's most renown
researchers. The book consists of three parts and a total of 16
chapters. Each chapter is written by leading experts who are
actively seeking to develop novel spectroscopic and analytical
methods for cancer detection and diagnosis. In Part I, the authors
present fundamentals on optics, atoms and molecules, biophysics,
cancer and machine learning. These chapters are intended for those
who are not experts in the field but wish to learn about
fundamentals' aspects of some of the key topics that are addressed
in this book. Particular attention has been given to providing key
references for those who wish to go further into the fundamental
aspects of atoms and molecules, light-matter interaction, optical
instrumentation, machine learning and cancer. In Part II, the
authors present key applications of various laser spectroscopic
methods in cancer diagnosis. They have provided recent progress in
cancer diagnostics obtained by combining laser spectroscopy and
machine learning for the analysis of the spectra acquired from
biomedical tissues and biofluids. In Part III, the authors present
chapters that discuss key developments in the applications of
various laser imaging techniques for cancer detection. This is one
of the few books that addresses cancer detection and diagnosis
using laser spectroscopic and imaging tools with an eye on
providing the reader the scientific tools, including machine
learning ones.
Many chemotherapeutic agents are available in today's market that
are highly effective against a variety of cancer types; however,
the major drawbacks of these chemotherapeutic agents are the many
side effects. As an alternative to these chemotherapeutic agents,
there are a number of natural agents that are effective against
cancer that have been tested in preclinical and clinical models
over the years. These natural products must be documented and
discussed in order to provide a thorough overview of all the
options available for cancer treatment. The Handbook of Research on
Natural Products and Their Bioactive Compounds as Cancer
Therapeutics emphasizes the list of natural agents against all
types of cancers and discusses the current state of research in the
fields of natural products and their derivatives against cancer in
preclinical and clinical models. This book also provides insight
into the applications of meditation and mindfulness-based
interventions in clinical and non-clinical conditions. Covering
topics such as cancer therapy, antioxidants, and flavonoids, it is
ideal for students, research scholars, academicians, professors,
scientists, oncologists, doctors, and medical practitioners.
In this book, cancer theranostics applications of magnetic iron
oxide nanoparticles are overviewed in details. Moreover, their
synthesis, characterization, multifunctionality, disease targeting,
biodistribution, pharmacokinetics and toxicity have been briefly
highlighted. Finally, we have mentioned the current examples of
clinical trials of magnetic nanoparticles in cancer theranostics
along with their future scopes and challenges.
THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER The inspirational memoir from the
founder of the You, Me and the Big C podcast, Rachael Bland.
Courageous and life-affirming, this is a mother’s final gift to
her son. My beautiful son, I so wish that I didn’t have to leave
you now. But believe me, I tried EVERYTHING I could to stay around
for you, and for every moment I could eke out of this life. From
the outset, it was not a fair fight. My cancer was too big, and too
aggressive, and we didn’t start on a level playing field. You
were fourteen months old and at the beginning I was so full of
fierce intention that we could get past this. I would lay you in
your cot each night and silently communicate from my mind to yours,
‘I will do this Freddie, I will gladly take whatever they throw
at me if it means we can stay together’. In 2016, beloved
broadcaster and journalist Rachael Bland was diagnosed with cancer.
Shortly afterwards she made the brave decision to share her story,
and she spoke with beautiful poignancy through her blog and
podcast, You, Me and the Big C. Having been told that she only had
a matter of months left to live and writing this in what were sadly
her final days, Rachael brings her warmth, courage and humour to
the page in this heart-warming and heart-breaking story. Part
memoir, part advice, For Freddie beautifully encapsulates the grace
and fearlessness in which Rachael lived her life. This is her
legacy and an incredible final gift to her son. Includes moving
contributions from Richard Bacon, Tony Livesey, Emma Barnett,
Shelagh Fogarty, Mark Pougatch, Chris Stark and many more.
