Everything about marijuana is undergoing a massive cultural shift.
Recent polls show that 64% of Americans want to legalise cannabis,
resulting in medical and/or recreational marijuana being legal in
29 states and Washington, DC. But also for the first time, as many
if not more women than men are using marijuana. And they use it
differently. They like milder doses, use more creams and oils, and
are more interested in feeling better than getting stoned. Women
approach cannabis as the new wellness. After all, it is analgesic,
anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal,
antianxiety, and antidepressant. Introducing Nikki Furrer, a very
well-informed cultivator who creates and markets cannabis-infused
products for women. Now inGet High Like a Lady, she's written the
book to help all interested women navigate the ever more
complicated world of cannabis. Illustrated throughout and written
in a lively, reassuring, humorous voice, it's an engaging and
entertaining guide that explains everything you need to know to
live the high life: how to read the shelves of the typical
dispensary, with its confusing options of flower, resin, vape pens,
oil, edibles, patches, creams, tinctures, and more. A primer on the
amazing health-giving compounds found in cannabis - THC, CBD,
terpenes, and more - and how they work and how they differ, along
with how to choose among strains depending on your needs. It even
leads the newbie through the first experience of getting high - how
much to use, what to do if you experience negative side effects,
the pleasures of microdosing. And finally it includes about 20
recipes, for extracts, tinctures, gummies, and beauty creams. It's
not your mother's joint anymore.

A history of Toxic Shock Syndrome In 1978, doctors in Denver,
Colorado observed several healthy children who suddenly and
mysteriously developed a serious, life-threatening illness with no
visible source. Their condition, which doctors dubbed 'toxic shock
syndrome' (TSS) was rare, but observed with increasing frequency
over the next few years in young women, and was soon learned to be
associated with a bacterium and the use of high-absorbency tampons
that had only recently gone on the market. In 1980, the Centers for
Disease Control identified Rely tampons, produced by Procter &
Gamble, as having the greatest association with TSS over every
other tampon, and the company withdrew them from the market. To
this day, however, women are frequently warned about contracting
TSS through tampon use, even though very few cases are diagnosed
each year. Historian Sharra Vostral's Toxic Shock is the first and
definitive history of TSS. Vostral shows how commercial interests
negatively affected women's health outcomes; the insufficient
testing of the first super-absorbency tampon; how TSS became a
'women's disease,' for which women must constantly monitor their
own bodies. Further, Vostral discusses the awkward, veiled and
vague ways public health officials and the media discussed the
risks of contracting TSS through tampon use because of social
taboos around discussing menstruation, and how this has hampered
regulatory actions and health communication around TSS, tampon use,
and product safety. A study at the intersection of public health
and social history, Toxic Shock brings to light the complexities
behind a stigmatized and under-discussed issue in women's
reproductive health. Importantly, Vostral warns that as we move
forward with more and more joint replacements, implants, and
internal medical devices, we must understand the relationship of
technology to bacteria and recognize that both can be active agents
within the human body. In other words, unexpected consequences and
risks of bacteria and technology interacting with each other
remain.
Mary King, the author of The Intuitive Voice (2002, Brolga
Publishing, 978-09096087-0-5) has now released this new book, The
Patriarchal Voice. As a therapist using the voice dialogue method,
Mary King shows how our inner 'patriarchal voice' has played a
powerful role in our lives and decision-making. She shows how it
has been displayed throughout history and how it continues to exert
its influence on both men and women to this day. This book shows us
how to recognise the patriarchal voice within ourselves, and
others, in order that women may channel this powerful, but often
restrictive, force into positive energy that will empower them to
follow their own wisdom and achieve greater success in their
careers and personal lives, and men to find greater emotional
fulfilment and enter into more satisfying relationships.
Our abdominal muscles are rarely "broken"; rather their weakness is
a reflection of how little we use our entire body. Whether you have
diastasis recti, a hernia, are postnatal, or simply have a very
weak midsection-this is the definitive "whole-body" guide to
restoring your core! Abdominal muscles have many important jobs
twisting the spine safely, accommodating pregnancy, protecting your
abdominal organs, and even breathing are just some of the jobs we
want them to do well. Many will try to fix their middle though
crunches and other abdominal exercises without realizing that
things like tight shoulder muscles, poor posture habits, and even
our breathing patterns can be affecting what's going on in our abs.
In Diastasis Recti, biomechanist Katy Bowman: Gives 30+ exercises,
organized into Small, Medium, and Big Moves Expands the core to
include essential parts, like the shoulders and pelvis (and how
movement patterns here can worsen abdominal separations) Explains
why it's better to think of a diastasis (abdominal hernias, or even
weakness) as a symptom rather than as "the problem" Teaches 5
simple postural adjustments to change the forces on the front of
the abdomen Notes that in addition to exercises, you can sit,
stand, and walk for a stronger core By making the material
understandable, approachable, and achievable, Bowman offers an
outstanding and necessary guide to diastasis recti and many other
abdomen-related issues. Everyone can benefit from these insights
and improve their health in an empowered and proactive way.
-Foreword Reviews Diastasis Recti is for anybody wanting to improve
both the function and the appearance of their abdomen!

Breast cancer is raising its ugly head in the plethora of cancer
around the world. This book by an expert gives convincing advise
about how best to avoid this disease, and live a long, care-free
and healthy life. It gives the relevant strategy as well as tactics
and is a welcome and timely piece of work. Various ways in which
the individual can help herself and seek medical advice in time are
given.
Why do so many women have trouble getting effective and
compassionate medical treatment? Diagnosis Female examines this
widespread problem, with a focus on misdiagnosis and gender bias.
The book zeroes in on specialties where women are more likely to
encounter particularly troubling roadblocks: cardiology, neurology,
chronic diseases and obstetrics/gynecology. All too often, when
doctors can’t figure out what is going on, women receive a
diagnosis from the “all in her head” column -- this pattern is
even worse for women of color, who face significant challenges in
medical settings. Throughout the work, Emily Dwass profiles women
whose stories illustrate how the medical community often dismisses
their claims, disregards their symptoms, or simply doesn’t know
that male symptoms and female symptoms can vary from issues to
issue. Time and again, women state that their voices did not
matter, or worse, their concerns were greeted with skepticism or
simply ignored when they sought help. The results can be
devastating and long-lasting. Examining the bias inherent in the
system, Dwass offers measures women can take to protect their
health and receive better care. She offers advice, too, for the
medical community in addressing the problem, so that outcomes can
improve all around. If you’re a woman, and you seek medical care,
this book is a must-read. Your health depends upon it.
A ground-breaking and deeply moving report from the front lines of the battle to protect a woman's right to abortion.
On Friday 24 June 2022, women's rights suffered an extraordinary and unprecedented blow. Five US Supreme Court justices made a decision that will impact millions of lives for years to come. In this gripping blend of reportage and history, journalist Becca Andrews tells the story how we have arrived at this devastating turning point.
NO CHOICE introduces the origin of abortion and its practice in global cultures, before focusing its gaze on the battle that has been waged for the past century across America, shining a light on the eerie ways in which life before Roe will be mirrored in life after. The wealthy and privileged will still have access, low-income people will suffer disproportionately, and pregnancy will be heavily policed.
Taking us to the frontlines - to clinics, courtrooms, local communities, charities - Andrews tells the deeply moving stories of those who have had abortions, and those who have fought - and are fighting - for the right to abortion. There is a glimmer of faint hope, though. As the battle moves to state legislatures around the country, the book profiles the people who are doing ground-breaking, inspiring work to ensure safe, legal access to this fundamental part of healthcare.
Childhood abuse is remarkably common in our culture, yet we rarely
talk about it or help survivors deal with the consequences. Abuse
can affect our minds, bodies, and spirits, and lead to
dysfunctional relationships and self-destructive behaviors.
Fortunately, there is hope. In this brief volume, psychotherapist,
Stefanie Stolinksy, identifies the many ways that abuse childhood
can affect you as an adult, and offers strategies to help you
overcome your past and be the person you were meant to be.
