Robert Mads Anderson is an elite mountaineer with a solitary goal:
to conquer Everest. After nearly getting killed on his first
expedition, he led a team up a new route on the Kangshung Face
without oxygen or Sherpa support, climbed solo on the remote North
Face, and finally guided a team to the top of the world.
Incorporating a who's who of internationally recognised climbers,
including Stephen Venables, Reinhold Messner and Chris Bonington,
Nine Lives traces the story of Everest, from the big, nationally
supported expeditions of the 1980s; through the small teams forging
new routes and climbing solo; to the commercially guided
expeditions of today. Set against the majestic backdrop of the
world's tallest peak, Anderson's nine Everest expeditions over
eighteen years define what truly drives a human being to the
greatest of heights. With a foreword by Peter Hillary and 32 pages
of colour photography, in Nine Lives Robert Mads Anderson offers
his personal account of the world's highest mountain.

Border towns of Peebles, Galashiels, Melrose, Kelso and Coldstream
on the way. There is no better way to discover the wildlife,
architecture and history of this area of Scotland than to walk.

The most accomplished mountain runner of all time contemplates his
record-breaking climb of Mount Everest in this profound and
free-flowing memoir-an intellectual and spiritual journey that
moves from the earth's highest peak to the soul's deepest reaches.
What drives a person to the edge of one of the most difficult and
revered mountains in the world? How much is one willing to
sacrifice and suffer to pursue an authentic and bold life? The most
accomplished mountain runner of all time, Kilian Jornet ponders
these questions as he contemplates his record-breaking climb of
Mount Everest, exploring the mountain's changing nature over four
seasons and his own existence. As he recounts a life spent
studying, tending, and ascending the greatest peaks on earth,
Jornet ruminates on what he has found in nature-simplicity,
freedom, and spiritual joy-and offers a poetic yet clearheaded
assessment of his relationship to the mountain . . . at times his
opponent, at others, his greatest muse. In this sweeping, soulful
journey-the flip side of stories like Into Thin Air-Jornet
illuminates with beauty and brilliance what it means to be an
athlete, a competitor, and a human facing the greatest life
challenges-for him, the mountain he yearns to climb and honour.

The Campsie Fells, along with the Kilpatrick, Kilsyth, Fintry and
Gargunnock Hills, form a sprawling upland range which stretches
eastwards from Dumbarton, passing to the north of the city of
Glasgow and across the narrow waist of Scotland towards Stirling.
It is often said that Glasgow is one of the easiest cities to get
away from and the Campsies and the Kilpatrick Hills, a few short
miles north of the city, are the first port of call. This guide
covers all of the major hills within both ranges, as well as
low-level walks around and between the villages which lie on their
perimeters. Many of these 40 walks make use of both the West
Highland Way and the John Muir Way which cut through the heart of
this area.
