own commitment to equality....This book is going to mean a lot, to
a lot of people.' - Jameela Jamil Stephanie Yeboah has experienced
racism and fat-phobia throughout her life. From being bullied at
school to being objectified and humiliated in her dating life,
Stephanie's response to discrimination has always been to change
the narrative around body-image and what we see as beautiful. In
her debut book, Fattily Ever After, Stephanie speaks openly and
courageously about her own experience on navigating life as a
black, plus-sized woman - telling it how it really is - and how she
has managed to find self-acceptance in a world where judgement and
discrimination are rife. Featuring stories of every day misogynoir
and being fetishized, to navigating the cesspit of online dating
and experiencing loneliness, Stephanie shares her thoughts on the
treatment of black women throughout history, the marginalisation of
black, plus-sized women in the media (even within the
body-positivity movement) whilst drawing on wisdom from other black
fat liberation champions along the way. Peppered with insightful
tips and honest advice and boldly illustrated throughout, this
inspiring and powerful book is essential reading for a generation
of black, plus-sized women, helping them to live their life openly,
unapologetically and with confidence.

Dandies: Fashion and Finesse in Art and Culture considers the
visual languages, politics, and poetics of personal appearance.
Dandyism has been most closely associated with influential
caucasian Western men-about-town, epitomized by the 19th century
style-setting of Oscar Wilde and by Tom Wolfe's white suits. The
essays collected here, however, examine the spectacle and workings
of dandyism to reveal that these were not the only dandies. On the
contrary, art historians, literary and cultural historians, and
anthropologists identify unrecognized dandies flourishing among
early 19th century Native Americans, in Soviet Latvia, in Africa,
throughout the African-American diaspora, among women, and in the
art world.
Moving beyond historical and fictional accounts of dandies, this
volume juxtaposes theoretical models with evocative images and
descriptions of clothing in order to link sartorial
self-construction with artistic, social, and political
self-invention. Taking into consideration the vast changes in
thinking about identity in the academy, Dandies provides a
compelling study of dandyism's destabilizing aesthetic
enterprise.

This fascinating publication presents the roles two men have played
in turning a small workshop in nineteenth-century Paris into one of
the most successful and recognized brands in the world. Known for
both craftsmanship and must-have high design, Louis Vuitton the
luxury house was started by its eponymous founder in 1854. The
first half of this publication traces the innovations by Vuitton,
who turned the little-known guild profession of emballeur (packer)
into the foremost luxury trunk maker in Paris, with a clientele
that included in his lifetime the French nobility as well as the
elite of a prosperous empire. Prime and never-before-seen examples
of Vuitton's craftsmanship, along with the fashion that went into
them, are the highlights of these chapters. The second half of the
book examines the role of Marc Jacobs as Louis Vuitton's creative
director (since 1997), who took the Louis Vuitton house into a new
era with a series of collaborations with artists and designers-such
as Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince, and Stephen Sprouse-as well as
designing a line of highly successful and desired clothing for the
company. By examining two divergent but often similar careers one
hundred years apart, Louis Vuitton / Marc Jacobs is not only a
layered study of the evolution of a luxury brand in the past 150
years but also a celebration of technical and design innovations in
the new century.

Find your sisu: the Finnish concept of resilience, grit, and
determination Finnish-born writer Katja Pantzar was raised and
educated in Canada, where the consumerist and materially obsessed
culture left her feeling empty and unhappy. When she received
treatment for depression in her mid-20s, the doctor treating her
simply prescribed medication and sleeping pills, with no thought
given to her lifestyle. After moving to Finland, Katja discovered
sisu: the Finnish approach to well-being defined by a special kind
of resilience, grit and courage. She embraced this way of living
and experienced a dramatic turnaround in her health and happiness.
Simple, functional exercise (as simple as riding her bike to work),
the Nordic diet, spending time in nature and taking up cold-water
swimming together with a more courageous outlook all served to
transform Pantzar's life: her anxieties, fatigue and pain left
behind in the sea. In Finding Sisu, Pantzar offers an honest (no
place is perfect - Finland is not an exception) and uplifting
account of her physical and psychological health transformation
from a slightly lethargic depressive into an energetic optimist.
She examines the link between sisu and the Nordic reputation for
excellent wellbeing and overall life satisfaction, and looks at the
ways in which we, too, can apply sisu to our lives - wherever we
may be. Finding Sisu is a personal but also practical approach to
the power of this 500-year-old philosophy and how it can help us
all to lead healthier, happier - and braver lives.
"The sustainable fashion revolution has begun, and we must all be
part of it." - Alois Guinut Stylish women everywhere are realizing
the environmental damage of fast fashion and looking for new ways
to dress that don't involve cramming their wardrobe with clothes
that may never get worn. As Paris-based style-coach Alois Guinut
explores in this invaluable book, French women have a lot to teach
us about how to cherish the planet without sacrificing your style:
- Know what works for you. - Buy less and buy better. - Mix vintage
items with a few wisely chosen modern pieces. - Optimize your
closet. - Look after what you have and make it last. - Seek out
quality fabrics that don't poison the environment.
Men and Style reaches beyond standard "what to wear" advice: it is
equal parts style guide and intriguing conversation about masculine
identity in the world of fashion. The book offers a much-needed
source of inspiration for the growing number of men who enjoy
expressing who they are through their clothes, manners and
lifestyle. Explore the history of men's style and learn from the
personal wisdom of some of the most notable tastemakers in the
industry and beyond. The book addresses everything from the
importance of ties to where to drink in New Orleans to the worst
corsage ever worn to a prom. Coggins shares his thoughts on
clothes, manners (and misbehaviour) and other gentlemanly concerns,
including premature gray, socks or no socks, facial hair, corporate
dressing, the difficulties of gift giving and other subjects that
men want to discuss and are seeking a forum to do so.
Say goodbye to calorie counting with this revolutionary weight-loss
method. Macronutrients or 'macros' are the three main nutrient
groups your body can't live without: carbohydrates, fats and
protein. So many diets focus on calorie counting, but not all
calories are created equal: your body doesn't process 20 calories
of kale and 20 calories of chocolate in the same way because of
their different macro breakdowns. Macro counting is all about
balance. By eating the right ratio of carbohydrates, fats and
protein, you can lose weight and build muscle in a healthy,
sustainable way without avoiding the foods you love. This flexible
approach to dieting encourages you to make smart food choices that
guarantee results. The Macro Method will tell you everything you
need to know about counting macros, including the latest research
about how the diet works and its nutritional benefits. The 21-day
plan will help you ditch the calorie counting for good, with more
than 40 simple recipes to tempt you.

Denim is a symbol of cultural globalisation. Democratic, versatile,
resistant to the passing of time and to changing tastes and styles,
it embodies rebellion and standardisation at the same time. Stefano
Chassai, an established designer on the international scene,
searches for new variations of the iconic blue fabric in the sphere
of men's wardrobe: mixed with other materials and ennobled with
unusual techniques, between craftsmanship and new technologies,
denim leaves the casual universe to enter the field of tailoring,
as the raw material for a new concept of elegance. The result is
Blue Tailoring, the story of an ideal collection, a creative
laboratory and manifesto of the stylist's poetics. With the
collaboration of over 30 Italian companies, Stefano Chiassai tells
his original interpretation of the most widespread fabric on the
planet. The book is divided into 10 chapters in which the designer
tackles different design methods and combinations of materials,
exploring new concepts of form. It also includes an interview by
Claudio Marenco Mores and critical texts by Paola Maddaluno, Bruno
Casini, Antonio Mancinelli and Claudio Marenco Mores. Text in
English and Italian.
