An exposition of the interplay between the modelling of dynamic systems and the design of feedback controllers based on these models is the main goal of this book. The combination of both subjects into a cohesive development allows the consistent treatment of both problems to yield powerful new tools for the improvement of system performance. Central among the themes of this work is the observation that operation of a system in feedback with a controller exposes the areas in which the model fit is constraining the controller performance achieved. The book presents new techniques for the understanding of the iterative improvement of performance through the successive fitting of models using closed-loop data and the design of high-performance controllers using these models. The subject matter includes: New approaches to understanding how to affect the fit of dynamical models to physical processes through the choice of experiments, data pre-filtering and model structure; connections between robust control design methods and their dependency on the quality of model fit; experimental design in which data collected in operation under feedback can reveal areas that limit the performance achieved; iterative approaches to link these model-fitting and control design phases in a cogent manner so as to achieve improved performance overall. The authors of individual chapters are some of the most renowned and authoritative figures in the fields of system identification and control design.
This book applies generalized fractional differentiation techniques of Caputo, Canavati and Conformable types to a great variety of integral inequalities e.g. of Ostrowski and Opial types, etc. Some of these are extended to Banach space valued functions. These inequalities have also great impact in numerical analysis, stochastics and fractional differential equations. The book continues with generalized fractional approximations by positive sublinear operators which derive from the presented Korovkin type inequalities and also includes abstract cases. It presents also multivariate complex Korovkin quantitative approximation theory. It follows M-fractional integral inequalities of Ostrowski and Polya types. The results are weighted so they provide a great variety of cases and applications. The second part of the book deals with the quantitative fractional Korovkin type approximation of stochastic processes and lays there the foundations of stochastic fractional calculus. The book considers both Caputo and Conformable fractional directions and derives regular and trigonometric results. The positive linear operators can be expectation operator commutative or not. Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) combine cyber capabilities, such as computation or communication, with physical capabilities, such as motion or other physical processes. Cars, aircraft, and robots are prime examples, because they move physically in space in a way that is determined by discrete computerized control algorithms. Designing these algorithms is challenging due to their tight coupling with physical behavior, while it is vital that these algorithms be correct because we rely on them for safety-critical tasks. This textbook teaches undergraduate students the core principles behind CPSs. It shows them how to develop models and controls; identify safety specifications and critical properties; reason rigorously about CPS models; leverage multi-dynamical systems compositionality to tame CPS complexity; identify required control constraints; verify CPS models of appropriate scale in logic; and develop an intuition for operational effects. A key factor for the introduction of (conditionally) automated vehicles is a high level of trust in and acceptance of these vehicles by the end-user. To bring such so-called TrustVehicles on the road, the end-users and their expectations have to be strongly taken into consideration by, for instance, developing driver interfaces as well as reliable and robust automated driving controllers. The main topics of the book are ranging from the question of how these TrustVehicles should behave and interact with users, the development of reliable sense-plan-act approaches, the whole verification procedures starting with simulation to studies on the driving simulator and the verification on a test track. This book develops a dynamical model of the orbital motion of Lorentz spacecraft in both unperturbed and J2-perturbed environments. It explicitly discusses three kinds of typical space missions involving relative orbital control: spacecraft hovering, rendezvous, and formation flying. Subsequently, it puts forward designs for both open-loop and closed-loop control schemes propelled or augmented by the geomagnetic Lorentz force. These control schemes are entirely novel and represent a significantly departure from previous approaches.
Robust Integration of Model-Based Fault Estimation and Fault-Tolerant Control is a systematic examination of methods used to overcome the inevitable system uncertainties arising when a fault estimation (FE) function and a fault-tolerant controller interact as they are employed together to compensate for system faults and maintain robustly acceptable system performance. HIS book presents a generalized state-space theory for the analysis T and synthesis of finite horizon suboptimal Hoo controllers. We de rive expressions for a suboptimal controller in a general setting and propose an approximate solution to the Hoo performance robustness problem. The material in the book is taken from a collection of research papers written by the author. The book is organized as follows. Chapter 1 treats nonlinear optimal control problems in which the cost functional is of the form of a quotient or a product of powers of definite integrals. The problems considered in Chap ter 1 are very general, and the results are useful for the computation of the actual performance of an Hoo suboptimal controller. Such an application is given in Chapters 4 and 5. Chapter 2 gives a criterion for the evaluation of the infimal Hoc norm in the finite horizon case. Also, a differential equation is derived for the achievable performance as the final time is varied. A general suboptimal control problem is then posed, and an expression for a subopti mal Hoo state feedback controller is derived. Chapter 3 develops expressions for a suboptimal Hoo output feedback controller in a very general case via the solution of two dynamic Riccati equations. Assuming the adequacy of linear expressions, Chapter 4 gives an iterative procedure for the synthesis of a suboptimal Hoo controller that yields the required performance even under parameter variations."

Traditionally, electrical machines are classi?ed into d. c. commutator (brushed) machines, induction (asynchronous) machines and synchronous machines. These three types of electrical machines are still regarded in many academic curricula as fundamental types, despite that d. c. brushed machines (except small machines) have been gradually abandoned and PM brushless machines (PMBM) and switched reluctance machines (SRM) have been in mass p- duction and use for at least two decades. Recently, new topologies of high torque density motors, high speed motors, integrated motor drives and special motors have been developed. Progress in electric machines technology is stimulated by new materials, new areas of applications, impact of power electronics, need for energy saving and new technological challenges. The development of electric machines in the next few years will mostly be stimulated by computer hardware, residential and public applications and transportation systems (land, sea and air). At many Universities teaching and research strategy oriented towards el- trical machinery is not up to date and has not been changed in some co- tries almost since the end of the WWII. In spite of many excellent academic research achievements, the academia-industry collaboration and technology transfer are underestimated or, quite often, neglected. Underestimation of the role of industry, unfamiliarity with new trends and restraint from technology transfer results, with time, in lack of external ?nancial support and drastic - cline in the number of students interested in Power Electrical Engineering.
