The books in this series encourage children to use everyday
materials in a series of exciting art projects, whether as
entertaining ideas for rainy days at home, or for early school
classrooms. In "Make it with Fabric", kids use both cloth and yarns
of many colours to make animal faces, a rag doll, a hand puppet, a
pen and pencil case and more! The 12 projects are presented in
photo-illustrated spreads which feature easy-to-follow steps.
Useful notes for parents and teachers appear at the end of the
book, which give guidance on how the projects can be adapted to
suit children of different ages.

primary trainee teachers with subject knowledge, expert advice and
guidance along with practical solutions that are necessary to offer
children the best possible experiences in art, craft and design, to
ensure that they have access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Through guidance and support it will enable them to develop an

standards and high expectations, and show good progress in the
subject.

around the world with a comprehensive, step-by-step approach. His
distinctive drawing method has proven to be successful for children

In this accessibly written guide for classroom and art teachers as well as parents, Nancy Beal shows how to release children's marvelous gifts of expression. Beal believes that children must first of all be comfortable with their materials. She focuses on six basic media: collage, drawing, painting, clay, printmaking, and construction. She gives practical consideration to all facets of a teacher's responsibility: how each material should be introduced; what supplies are best; how a classroom may be set up to support children's explorations; and how teachers may ask open-ed questions to stimulate personal and meaningful expression. Beal also discusses how to integrate art into social studies and how to make museum visits productive and fun. Each chapter includes a section specifically for parents on helping their children create art at home.
Beal has taught art to children for twenty-five years and is able to draw on a wealth of examples from her classroom. The Art of Teaching Art to Children is extensively illustrated with her students' art, visual proof of her gifts as an educator and art enthusiast.

This beloved anthology, a favorite of students, teachers, parents, and dramatists for decades, offers a collection of twenty plays to be performed for young audiences or by child actors.
Plays Children Love: Volume II—replacing the earlier volume, which is now out of print—adheres to the same format of Jennings and Harris' earlier classic: a choice of plays for adults to perform for children as well as a choice of plays for kids to produce and perform themselves. Among the favorites collected here: Charlotte's Web, The Wizard of Oz, Treasure Island, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and Jim Thorpe, All-American.
With an extensive introduction detailing the special needs of producing plays for children, and with many insightful instructions for helping children get the most out of producing plays themselves, this book is a solid asset for all classrooms, children's theatre groups, school libraries, education seminars, playwrighting workshops, and the like.
If you can make a simple shape, you can draw an animal! In his fun
follow-up to Drawing Shape by Shape, Christopher Hart - the world's
bestselling author of how-to-draw books - has devised an
irresistible menagerie of more than 90 colourful creatures to
create. Begin with a basic circle, square, rectangle, or triangle,
and turn it step-by-easy-step into a kitty, dog, elephant, baby
gator, and many more. And what's really cool is, you can still see
the starting shape even in the completed animal! Perfect for
children - and artistically inclined adults, too!
Salvador Dali just couldn't help being himself. When he was little,
he wasn't like the other children; he was a day dreamer who liked
to play pretend. When he grew up, he became an artist, but he
didn't want to make art that looked like everyone else's. He became
the most famous painter of his time after he made a picture of
melting clocks. He liked to do wild, attention-grabbing things: He
drove a fancy car stuffed with 1,000 pounds of cauliflower. He gave
a speech inside a deep-sea diving suit. And he took his pet ocelot
Babou to lunch at snooty restaurants. He designed lollipop wrappers
in exchange for free candy, a lobster phone that really worked, and
a hat made out of a shoe! Here's the true story of the one and only
Salvador Dali, an artist who never stopped being himself.

Walter Crane (1845-1915) was one of the earliest contributors to
children's literature and one of the most influential illustrators
in the development of children's colour picture books. Crane began
working for Edmund Evans in 1864 producing bright, colourful
children's books which revolutionised the type of children's books
available. He created a series of 'Toy Books' between 1865-1875
which contained fairy stories, nursery rhymes and other tales of
adventures. His wonderful Japanese influenced illustrations with
their bright, bold, flat colour and black outline never failed to
entertain both children and adults. This book 'The Song Of Sixpence
Picture Book' is one of many 'Toy Books', it contains the stories,
Sing A Song Of Sixpence, Princess Belle Etoile and An Alphabet Of
Old Friends. Many of the earliest children's books, particularly
those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce
and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working to republish
these classic works in affordable, high quality, colour editions,
using the original text and artwork so these works can delight
another generation of children.
Art Teaching speaks to a new generation of art teachers in a
changing society and fresh art world. Comprehensive and up-to-date,
it presents fundamental theories, principles, creative approaches,
and resources for art teaching in elementary through middle-school.
Key sections focus on how children make art, why they make art, the
unique qualities of children's art, and how artistic development
can be encouraged in school and at home. Important aspects of
curriculum development, integration, evaluation, art room
management, and professional development are covered. A wide range
of art media with sample art activities is included. Taking the
reader to the heart of the classroom, this practical guide
describes the realities, challenges, and joys of teaching art,
discusses the art room as a zone for creativity, and illustrates
how to navigate in a school setting in order to create rich art
experiences for students. Many textbooks provide information; this
book also provides inspiration. Future and practicing teachers are
challenged to think about every aspect of art teaching and to begin
formulating independent views and opinions.
