Changing Change Management - Strategy, Power and Resistance (Paperback): Darren McCabe Changing Change Management - Strategy, Power and Resistance (Paperback)
Darren McCabe
R1,213 Discovery Miles 12 130 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The literature on Change Management works from the premise that management possesses the power to achieve change and this is evident in that resistance is little more than a footnote in most textbooks. This assumption sits uneasily, however, with the high failure rate of Change Management interventions. This book seeks to explain this paradox by providing a critical 'relational' approach towards Change Management. What would a book on Change Management look like that takes resistance seriously? This book attempts precisely this by exploring how resistance is as much a part of change as the strategies of those that seek to enact it. The findings are drawn from a qualitative study of organizational transformation in a Local Government Authority in the UK. Its detailed empirical insights enable readers to explore organizational change from many different perspectives considering issues such as the strategic use of metaphor and counter-metaphors; management and employee resistance; organizational politics and cynicism. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, and students interested in change management, organizational studies, human resource management, and critical management studies.

Inclusive Leadership - Perspectives from Tradition and Modernity (Paperback): Swami Bodhananda, Tilak Agerwala, Sangeetha Menon Inclusive Leadership - Perspectives from Tradition and Modernity (Paperback)
Swami Bodhananda, Tilak Agerwala, Sangeetha Menon
R1,213 Discovery Miles 12 130 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book reflects on the models of leadership espoused by ancient Indic traditions, in particular the Advaita Vedanta tradition. Focusing primarily on the Rajarshi - 'the philosopher king' - the essays in this volume showcase how using these models in contemporary society could lead to the creation of self-aware and empathic leaders and an inclusive society. The book explores examples of the Brahmarshi, or the wise scholar; Rajarshi, or the wise ruler; and Devarshi, or the visionary, to bring together all the ideal virtues of inclusive leadership in the current cultural and political space. The essays in the volume adopt a critical sociological, philosophical and management lens to analyse Indic traditions and dharmic concepts. The volume uses concepts such as dharma, karma and, yoga along with organisational psychology, technology, and management, to arrive at the concept of transcendental leadership. It theorises new definitions of the Rajarshi ideal, which can be used towards public service, social transformation and self-discovery. The volume will be useful for scholars and academics interested in Indic philosophies of leadership and governance, sociology, and social and political inclusivity. It will also be useful for readers in public administration, business and management.

Coaching Psychology for Mental Health - Borderline Personality Disorder and Personal Psychological Recovery (Hardcover): Martin... Coaching Psychology for Mental Health - Borderline Personality Disorder and Personal Psychological Recovery (Hardcover)
Martin O'Connor, Hugh O'Donovan
R3,743 Discovery Miles 37 430 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Traditionally, coaching psychologists have worked with people who aren't experiencing significant mental distress or have diagnosed mental illness. This book describes an innovative and challenging project of bringing coaching psychology to the lived experience of individuals with a diagnosed mental illness, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The authors present a case for why coaching psychology needs to be constructively challenged to broaden its base and be more inclusive and of service to people experiencing BPD in particular. The book describes a coaching interaction involving coaching psychologists and a number of individuals with BPD who had completed a behavioural skills programme (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy; DBT). It explores the epistemological and practice tensions involving the dominance of clinical recovery (elimination of symptoms) in mental health services and personal or psychological recovery (originating in the narratives of people with a diagnosis of mental illness who yearn to live a life worth living). This book, written amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, makes a compelling case for coaching psychologists to engage with the philosophy and practice implications of personal recovery, at both professional and personal levels. It will be vital reading for those engaged in coaching psychology and for the education, training and continuous professional development of coaches and coaching psychologists.

Graham Lee
R3,744 Discovery Miles 37 440 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Conversational effectiveness is a barometer of human thriving and facilitating insightful conversations is a powerful method for accelerating psychological change and collaboration. This ground-breaking professional book provides a map of Breakthrough Conversations together with a practical toolkit for enhancing awareness, emotional resilience and creativity. Neuroscience, mindfulness and psychological research shows that awareness is pivotal to skilful conversations. By supporting clients to observe and manage their own body-brain states during conversation, they can learn to switch on the physiological systems that support more authentic, agile, and attuned interactions. Three body-brain states, reactive, habitual and reflective - characterised as Red, Amber and Green (RAG) - are differentiated in terms of body-sensations and behaviours, and these correspond to predictable interactive patterns. Facilitated to experience more emotionally resilient conversations, clients access their natural capacities for collaboration, compassion and shared creativity. This journey, through the five stages of Breakthrough Conversations, drawing on the RAG frame and a number of other practical models, is richly illustrated with case studies from working one-to-one and with pairs. Coming to see conversations as a dance driven by the interactions of underlying needs and emotions frees clients to make paradigm shifts in their self-awareness and interpersonal effectiveness. Fostering Employee Buy-in Through Effective Leadership Communication (Hardcover): Tim P. Mcmahon Fostering Employee Buy-in Through Effective Leadership Communication (Hardcover)
Tim P. Mcmahon
R3,896 Discovery Miles 38 960 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Based on a case study of leadership communication in a time of organizational change, this book gives new leaders insights into the tools and skills needed to become effective, motivating communicators in their leadership careers. Taking a holistic approach to communication and leadership, the book argues that employees buy in to change when they collectively feel engaged in meaningful work that will enrich the lives of customers, employees, and investors. Based on ethnographic research, it approaches the topic through an absorbing fiction-like retelling of an organization's successful navigation of change against the backdrop of the 2007 mortgage crisis. In doing so, it establishes a framework for leaders to understand the principles behind how and why buy-in is generated in organizations. This unique approach allows readers to visualize leadership communication principles in practice. Fostering Employee Buy-in is ideal as a supplementary text in introductory leadership communication, management, and business courses or as a text for new leaders interested in inspiring organizational change.

Change and Development in Organisations - Towards Consciousness, Humanity and Innovation (Hardcover): Ricardo Chiva Change and Development in Organisations - Towards Consciousness, Humanity and Innovation (Hardcover)
Ricardo Chiva
R3,877 Discovery Miles 38 770 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Due to the increasing transformation and changes in the economy, society, technology, ecology or even human health, organisations and companies are or should be continuously changing in order to survive as they are open systems. This book illustrates both how organisations can transform or change and where the most cutting-edge and innovative organisations and companies are heading. Accordingly, the book is structured in two parts. The first part explores concepts associated with change and development such as innovation, organisational resilience and learning, and describes the latest trends and related research. The second part analyses the new organisation or company we are, it is to be hoped, heading for: a more conscious, compassionate, sustainable, innovative, trustful and humane organisation. The book reviews underlying ideas related to leadership, technology, trust and compassion and presents and analyses compassionate, sustainable and conscious organisations through an in-depth examination of their organisational and managerial characteristics, with particular emphasis on their human resource management practices and employee wellbeing. This volume is principally addressed to management and business students and researchers, as it offers a pedagogical review and analysis of the topics from the latest literature and research. At the same time, it provides highly topical and interesting ways forward for executives who want to transform their companies by introducing more conscious, humane and innovative approaches.

Millennial Spring - Designing the Future of Organizations (Hardcover): Miriam Grace, George B. Graen Millennial Spring - Designing the Future of Organizations (Hardcover)
Miriam Grace, George B. Graen
R1,709 Discovery Miles 17 090 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Our corporate dominated world is resisting the best efforts of the "under 30s" to shape it into the information age. This book contains information about what the careers of the "under 30s" corporation will become. This was done examining recent trends in careers of "growing-tip" companies like Apple, Boeing, Microsoft and US and international design schools. The world of careers is changing fast, and the millennials - the generation of people who became adults around 2000, or in the decade or so after - have been right in the middle of it. From Independence Square in Kyiv to the streets of Caracas, from Taksim Square in Istanbul to Zuccoti Park in New York, and from Silicon Valley to Wall Street, it's the 30-and-under crowd courageously leading the quest for different ways. Less invested in past approaches, tech-savvy to a fault, and painfully aware of the challenges left to them by earlier generations, they're not willing to "settle" - to make the same compromises (and mistakes) they think their parents made. And although they sometimes get rapped for being self-centered, all the evidence I see - and I've taught thousands of them on two continents, and even have one in my own family - suggests that the millennials represent real hope for the future. Please consider this a call to all millennials - here, in the pages of this book, are some of the means. Get out there and create the under-30s revolution. Solve the problems your parents couldn't. Do it together, with a conscientious eye to what works for all involved. Get out there and save theworld.

Culture and Resilience at Work - A Study of Stress and Hardiness among Indian Corporate Professionals (Hardcover): Pallabi Mund Culture and Resilience at Work - A Study of Stress and Hardiness among Indian Corporate Professionals (Hardcover)
Pallabi Mund
R1,370 Discovery Miles 13 700 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

In 1979, Suzanne C. Kobasa propounded her theory of "hardiness" where she hypothesized her 3Cs: Commitment, Control, and Challenge, as the basic ingredients of hardiness that make an individual stress resilient. She was one of the early researchers who paid attention to personality features and illustrated that individuals who experience high level of stress without mental and physical illness have a different personality from those who become ill in stressful conditions. In current times, the discourse has enjoyed a sustained scholarly interest but there is hardly any study on the corporate professionals or the Indian context. Since the early 1990s, India has joined the corporate world and has been a fast-developing country. This changed state of affairs provides a broader scope of study on hardy personality in coping with stress in the Indian context. This book examines the efficacy of hardiness on the Indian corporate professionals in the post-globalization scenario. It endeavours to situate Kobasa's foundational theorisation along with those offered by other scholars in the context of the contemporary life situations with a focus on India. It presents a hypothesis that in the Indian context, culture could be looked upon as yet another basic component of hardiness. Culture and Resilience at Work offers an assessment of the significant contribution of Indian culture as one of the major contributing components in enhancing hardiness in corporate professionals. It will be of interest to researchers, academics, professionals, and students in the fields of stress management, human resource management, social psychology, culture studies, and organizational behaviour.

Rising Consumer Materialism - A Threat to Sustainable Happiness (Paperback): Afia Khalid, Faisal Qadeer Rising Consumer Materialism - A Threat to Sustainable Happiness (Paperback)
Afia Khalid, Faisal Qadeer
R694 Discovery Miles 6 940 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Rising Consumer Materialism presents a theoretical advancement of materialism research. It identifies eight areas of a consumer's life that are inter-disciplinary and of prime importance towards promoting happy and rewarding lifestyles. This study examines the pre-planned purchase process as the primary step towards satisfactory consumption. The theoretical framework provides a stream of research possibilities that guide readers towards healthy consumption patterns. Therefore, the book offers practical solutions to problems such as loneliness and unhappiness. It advocates a new dimension of consumption activity and lifestyle choices that can help to re-socialize and improve social bonds; hitting materialism right at its core, making the consumption experience well informed and beneficial for the consumer as well as society. Together, pre-planned engaging, intrinsic experiential purchases with a view to environmentalism, religiosity, social giving, social support and nostalgia can cure the excessive emphasis on acquiring and showing off valuables that are disruptive to a consumer's social affiliations and subjective wellbeing. Rather than utilizing material possessions as a proxy measure for success and happiness resulting in only temporary happiness, discontent, continuous brand/product switching, undesirable post purchase evaluations and shifting brand loyalties, the book establishes alternative mechanisms for achieving happiness. The integrated framework provides a comprehensive solution rather than a half-baked specific situational-based intervention and is a must read for academics, students and consumers alike.

The Spartan W@rker (Paperback): Konstantinos Perrotis, Cary L. Cooper The Spartan W@rker (Paperback)
Konstantinos Perrotis, Cary L. Cooper
R697 Discovery Miles 6 970 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The field of Organizational Psychology and Occupational Stress is complex and multifaceted. Many efforts have been made by several authors to write books that would have assisted employees in becoming more satisfied, relaxed and thus happier with their work, but such a result seems difficult and complicated to achieve. In The Spartan W@rker, the authors approach the research of Organizational Psychology and Occupational Stress from a fresh and different perspective. It compares the modern work environment with the features and way of life of the famous Greek Spartan warriors. Spartan warriors embraced a unique lifestyle which made them become more resilient, engaged, committed and efficient in their everyday lives, both in times of peace and war. The book proposes that in an increasingly demanding work environment, such an approach would be very beneficial for workers who want and need to learn how to become more resilient and thus remain unaffected from the daily stresses of modern life. This book dedicates itself to explaining in detail the mechanisms through which occupational stress negatively affects our lives as well as in proposing techniques that will help individuals to enhance their coping skills in dealing with stress. This book will appeal to a broad range of professionals looking to understand and reduce the occurrence of occupational stress with its playful style, which is nevertheless grounded in scientific literature and research.

How Parties Experience Mediation - An Interview Study on Relationship Changes in Workplace Mediation (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019):... How Parties Experience Mediation - An Interview Study on Relationship Changes in Workplace Mediation (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Timea Tallodi
R2,829 Discovery Miles 28 290 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents an unprecedented qualitative research study on relational changes in mediation with a truly interdisciplinary outset, drawing on the literature on psychology, alternative dispute resolution and business. Mediation's potential to induce changes in parties' relationships as an advantage of the process is commonly mentioned in the literature. However, despite its being a key to reconciliation, relational changes in mediation has not yet been a topic of foundational and fine-grained qualitative enquiry. As the first study in the literature, this research uses in-depth interviews with mediation parties and the qualitative methodology of interpretative phenomenological analysis in order to explore participants' lived experiences. The phenomenological stance ensures a particularly rich data set and a nuanced interpretative analysis. This pioneering piece of research seeks to enter mediation parties' true experiences as closely as possible, moving beyond pre-existing theoretical, quantitative and large-scale qualitative explorations. The themes are discussed in the context of theory, research and practice. Therefore, this book advances knowledge about mediation both in theoretical and practical terms. Innovative conclusions and recommendations are provided for developing mediation practice, mediation training programmes, and further research.
