After Carol Bowen Ball underwent bariatric surgery she found there was very little practical information for weight-loss surgery patients and as a result she wrote the first (and to date only) UK bariatric advice and cookery book - Return to Slender. At the same time she launched BariatricCookery.com a website to support the same patients. A year later she wrote a sequel Return 2 Slender... Second Helpings. Both books have been widely praised by the professional bariatric community as well as pre-op and post-op patients. The recipes in The Bariatric Bible are designed and developed to help at every stage after weight-loss surgery. They are colour-coded to suit the 3 main stages afterwards. These are: the Red or 1st Fluids Stage, the Amber or 2nd Soft/Pureed Stage, the Green or 3rd Eating for Life Stage. They will have a nutritional analysis breakdown. This includes measured calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat levels. Recipes are also further coded for suitability for freezing and for vegetarian eating. A new bariatric lifestyle however isn't just about food - it is also about exercise, changes in behaviour and relationships, adhering to essential medications; coping with unsettling situations that can de-rail the best of intentions, dealing with social situations like eating out; finding new ideas for a changing body through fashion and beauty advice; and making new healthier habits to replace old destructive ones. As a result the book will be the most comprehensive book of any currently on the market. The book will cover the types of surgery on offer for those who want to know more so that they (along with their bariatric team) can make the best choice from the selection available. It will also look at and advise on the many pre-op diets that are required prior to surgery - sometimes to lose weight as part of the qualification process and also as the liver-reducing diet prior to surgery itself for safe intervention. However, it will mainly focus on advice and recipes for after surgery to help the post-op patient maximise their best chance of long-term success with weight-loss and better health.

How much time do you have to cook dinner tonight? Clodagh McKenna's brand-new title is inspired by how much time you have in your busy life and is packed with flavourful, speedy recipes that you can cook from start to finish in 10, 20 or 30 minutes. Destined to become the most useful book in your kitchen, In Minutes is filled with 80 recipes that will soon be weekly staples, from Warm Lentil Salad with Goat's Cheese to Spring Garden Gnocchi and Chicken Katsu Ramen. Divided into three chapters: 10-minute recipes - speedy salads to make you glow, pastas for the whole family and no-stress noodles 20-minute recipes - light and crispy tempuras, spicy curries for vegans and vegetarians alike, and single-serve ramens 30-minute recipes - healthy fish dishes, delicious tarts, mouth-watering burgers and one-pot chicken suppers Clodagh is the master of accessible cooking that looks good and makes you feel good. She is obsessed with simple recipes that encourage you to cook from scratch most nights of the week. Speed and simplicity are key. 'As a chef I talk to people about food every day. People talk to me in person, on Instagram and they even stop me in the street to chat about food - I absolutely love it! They love to swap recipes, tell you their food preferences and where to buy the greatest ingredients, but the number one topic is time, and how much or how little they have, and how that affects what they cook and when they cook it. Every other part of our lives is timed very carefully. How long we sleep, how much time we should spend exercising, how long it takes us to get to work. But cooking... It depends how long you've got, or how much time you are willing to spend. I live fairly remotely and make dinner most nights rather than eating out or having takeaways, so this book is my answer to whether I have 10, 20 or 30 minutes to cook supper.' Praise for Clodagh's Weeknight Kitchen: 'Clodagh McKenna's simple yet spectacular dishes make every day special. Delicious, effortless, show-stopping recipes.' Daily Mail 'The most cookable cook book of the year.' William Sitwell, The Telegraph 'Really easy recipes that will impress.' The Times Magazine
Acclaimed journalist and author of The Dorito Effect delivers a groundbreaking, entertaining, and informative work that reveals how our dysfunctional relationship with food began-and how science is leading us back to healthier living and eating. For the last fifty years, we have been fighting a losing war on food. We have cut fat, reduced carbs, eliminated sugar, and attempted every conceivable diet only to find that eighty-eight million American adults are prediabetic, more than a hundred million have high blood pressure, and nearly half now qualify as obese. The harder we try to control what we eat, the more unhealthy we become. Why? Mark Schatzker has spent his career traveling the world in search of the answer. In The Dorito Effect, he revealed the startling relationship between flavor and nutrition. In Steak, he was one of the first authors to recognize the critical importance of regenerative agriculture. Now, in The End of Craving, he poses an even more profound question: What if the key to nutrition and good health lies not in resisting the primal urge to eat but in understanding its purpose? Beginning in the mountains of Europe and the fields of the Old South, Schatzker embarks on a quest to uncover the lost art of eating and living well. Along the way, he visits brain scanning laboratories and hog farms, and encounters cultural oddities and scientific paradoxes-northern Italians eat what may be the world's most delicious cuisine, yet are among the world's thinnest people; laborers in southern India possess an inborn wisdom to eat their way from sickness to good health. Schatzker reveals how decades of advancements in food technology have turned the brain's drive to eat against the body, placing us in an unrelenting state of craving. Only by restoring the relationship between nutrition and the essential joy of eating can we hope to lead longer and happier lives. Combining cutting-edge science and ancient wisdom, The End of Craving is an urgent and radical investigation that will fundamentally change how we understand both food and ourselves.
