This work is a clarion call for civil-military relations reform as a mechanism for arresting the drift toward political instability. According to Nwagwu, unless the military is "tamed," military officers will continue to be a force for instability that would ultimately lead to national disintegration.

In On What We Mean, Arnold Chien discusses the meaning of a speaker, a notion we use in everyday conversation. Speaker's meaning is a fundamental notion of pragmatics, i.e. the study of the relation between words and speakers. Yet everyday speaker's meaning has not been systematically studied in philosophy or linguistics. Chien's approach to these issues is to take a speaker's meaning as an answer to "what do you (s/he) mean" (WDYM) questions. He then analyzes WDYM-questions in terms of Bas van Fraassen's analysis of why-questions, according to which, a question consists of a set of parameters whose values vary according to the context. The constraints on speaker's meanings are analyzed in terms of certain constraints on answers to WDYM-questions. The account is extended to metaphor, understood to be a kind of conceptual indeterminacy.

TV or No TV? grew out of a study of four families who have lived for several years without television and have done so not because of practical necessity but because their adult members actively wish to avoid the influences of television while raising children. These families, according to the authors, have formed unique perceptions of television through observing the medium only as "outsiders." This hybrid study, which presents new research findings and a comprehensive yet succinct review of scientific investigations into the lasting effects of television, is written primarily as a supplementary text for use in undergraduate psychology, sociology, or communications courses.

In On Truth and the Representation of Reality, Dan Nesher develops a new theory of truth in the framework of pragmatist theory of representation. Using the pragmatist theory of perception for the basis of his epistemological explanation of our confrontation with external Reality and how it's represented, Nesher shows that in our perceptual operations we quasi-prove the truth of our perceptual judgments. He explains how- through our proving the truth of our propositions and theories, we know that they correspond to Reality, and through our proving their falsity, we know that they don't correspond to it.
