Jon G. Robbins, M.B. Djamgoz, Anthony Taylor
R4,208 Discovery Miles 42 080 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

I have been asked to write a brief foreword to this volume honoring Hisako Ikeda, providing a review of the accomplishments in our field over the past four decades, when Hisako was an active participant. This I am delighted to do. It has been a most exciting time in vision research and Hisako has been right in the middle of much of the excitement, publishing on a wide variety of topics and providing much new data and many new insights. Hisako's research career can be divided by decades into four quite distinct areas of inquiry. In the 1950s, as a student in Japan, her research interests were psychophysical in nature, and she was concerned with visual illusions, figural aftereffects, and motion detec tion. In the 1960s, after her move to London, she began electrophysiological studies. Much of her work in the 1960s was concerned with the electroretinogram (ERG), its components, and the use of this electrical response for evaluating spectral sensitivities of the eye and retinal degenerations. This work represented the beginning of her electrodiagnostic clinical work, which continued until her retirement."

The Ophthalmology Examinations Review (Paperback, 3rd Revised edition): Tien Yin Wong, Wesley Guang Wei Chong, Zhu Li Yap,... The Ophthalmology Examinations Review (Paperback, 3rd Revised edition)
Tien Yin Wong, Wesley Guang Wei Chong, Zhu Li Yap, Saadia Farooqui
R1,822 Discovery Miles 18 220 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Since the last Edition of Ophthalmology Examinations Review, there has been major new discovery in the understanding of common eye diseases, and new treatments and diagnostic procedures have been refined or newly developed.

A revised Edition reflecting these changes is warranted at this time. The aim and scope of the book will be consistent with the previous two editions in that it will provide a broad review for the final year ophthalmology resident and trainees taking the specialist ophthalmology examinations. The book deals primarily with key facts and topics that are important from an examination perspective. Only information and facts that are considered relevant and critical to the exams are covered, with topics that may be of scientific interest, but are not common to exams specifically left out. This book will help the resident organize and synthesize knowledge acquired from various other sources or textbooks. While not meant to replace standard textbooks, enough information is contained within the book to serve as the main revision text nearer the exams.

The style and format of this book is intentionally didactic, with questions and short answers. The answer includes a "model opening statement," followed by a classification system to aid organization of facts and then by the bulk of the answer in concise short notes. Exam Tips are inserted to provide an insight into how to answer different types of questions and when appropriate, a Clinical Approach section is also included.

In the new edition, topics such as new understanding of disease mechanisms, new investigations (e.g. OCT), and new procedures and treatment (e.g. use of anti-vascular endothelial growth factors, new refractive surgical techniques, new corneal transplant) are covered.

Oculoplastic Surgery Atlas - Cosmetic Facial Surgery (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2018): Geoffrey J. Gladstone, Frank A. Nesi, Evan H.... Oculoplastic Surgery Atlas - Cosmetic Facial Surgery (Hardcover, 2nd ed. 2018)
Geoffrey J. Gladstone, Frank A. Nesi, Evan H. Black
R2,884 Discovery Miles 28 840 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

When the first edition of this atlas was published in 2005, it was well received throughout the oculoplastic and ophthalmology community for its simplicity and clinical focus. Now, a decade later, surgical techniques have been updated to reflect current practice models and advances in technology. The field of oculoplastic surgery has grown and evolved to include all aspects of facial plastic surgery and the literature must now reflect the advancements of this field. Oculoplastic Surgery Atlas: Cosmetic Facial Surgery, 2nd edition combines text and diagrams, plus surgical videos that enable readers to perform this surgery with the best possible instruction and preparation. Written for ophthalmology specialists and residents, this new edition presents many aspects of facial cosmetic surgery, including blepharoplasty, endoscopic forehead surgery, rhytidectomy, and soft tissue and lip augmentation. Review of the previous edition: "The book offers insight into the possibilities and technology of modern aesthetic cosmetic surgery in the face region. ... The book can be recommended for the aesthetic surgeon and for ophthalmologists. ... The ophthalmologic plastic surgeon will find this book of interest especially in showing a lot of additional possibilities and dimensions in this field. The book will be an asset in every ophthalmic surgeons library." (Karl-Heinz Emmerich, Graefe's Archiv for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Vol. 245, 2007)

Several of the chapters describe new, state-of-the-art methods within genetics, morphology, imaging techniques, electrophysiology, psychophysics, and computational neuroscience. The book gives a comprehensive overview of the different disciplines in human color vision in a way that makes it accessible to specialists and non-specialist scientists alike. About the Series: The Springer Series in Vision Research is a comprehensive update and overview of cutting edge vision research, exploring, in depth, current breakthroughs at a conceptual level.
