The first ever mass-market book on politeness and the important
role it plays in our work, relationships and lives, from professor
and pioneer of Politeness Theory, Louise Mullany. Are women really
more polite than men? What is the most polite country in the world?
And when is it OK to swear? Politeness rules our day-to-day lives,
whether it's speaking to colleagues about issues at work, dealing
with difficult family members or wondering if you should eat the
last biscuit. For years, Louise Mullany has been examining the
prevalence and power of politeness in our everyday speech and
actions, and discovering what this says about us. In her first
book, Polite, Louise shows how the unseen science of politeness
governs everything we do, from what we say to how we act, and
reveals how a better understanding of the rules and norms of
politeness can help us in all aspects of our work, leisure and home
lives. And, in doing so, she answers the age-old question... is
there ever such a thing as too polite?
If you and your family are going through financial and economic
difficulties, this is in no way an accident or something that
should be solely weighted on your shoulders alone. Your demise is a
part of a systematic attack from powerful entities designed to
break your will and make you subservient to the needs of a select
few. This book will attempt to unlock some of the mysteries behind
who these individuals are and what there main goal is.

The IRS must be replaced The IRS is not producing the revenues
needed to grow our economy. The fact that more poor and lower
income Americans pay little or no taxes and the rich and big
business have tax loopholes, plus the growing number of Americans
who don't even file any income taxes, compiled with many tax
cheaters - it's little wonder why federal revenues are declining
when they should be increasing. We also have a growing underground
economy in America as more and more Americans and illegals are
dealing with cash only and not paying any income taxes. This
underground economy is at least $500 billion a year. We must have a
national consumption tax (aka national volume added or national
sales tax) as of Jan. 1, 2011. We can make it 10 percent on
everything. Five percent of this national consumption tax goes to
the federal government and five percent goes to the states to pay
for the unfunded mandates the federal government passes. Also, as
of 2011, the IRS should cut IRS taxes in half and make them much
more simple. In a year or two, if the national consumer tax
increases federal and state revenues, we can double it to 20
percent and nearly eliminate the IRS. A national value added sales
tax will let America receive revenues from goods sold in America by
slave labor countries and eliminate the cash-only underground
economy. Whereas I suggest that the states receive 50 percent of
the revenue received by a national sales tax (aka value added tax)
the states could collect and monitor this tax. With the exception
of two or three states with no sales tax, they could implement and
enforce this consumption tax with a few new employees. We must
financially help the states because a chain is only as strong as
its weakest link. Health care bill is not funded President Obama
said, "This health care legislation will be the greatest
legislation since Roosevelt passed the Social Security Act."
However, unlike Social Security, it is an unfunded mandate which
exceeds the ability of big and small businesses to pay for. It is a
socialistic boondoggle incognito. It is my opinion that big
business and small business cannot afford to pay for health
insurance for the many Americans whom they employ. The health care
bill will cause more unemployment in America.
An essential handbook of policing leadership behavioural skills for
both professional police officers and policing students aspiring to
join the force. The behaviours examined are of relevance to all
ranks and roles, from a newly appointed police constable to an
executive officer. Behavioural soft skills are essential to
effective policing practice and professional development, and are
particularly significant in leadership and management roles. This
handbook examines the key leadership behaviours and focuses on
discreet aspects within policing as well as describing a career
timeline. In addition it provides a unique opportunity for leaders
to articulate the effects the Covid-19 pandemic has had on law
enforcement, examining the impact on policing behaviours and what
the blockages are. Each chapter is written by a well-established
serving police leader or policing scholar, bringing together a
wealth of experience and understanding and applying this knowledge
in context through key case studies and examples. It bridges the
gap between theory and practice so readers can apply what they have
learnt to their policing roles and effectively formulate and
describe their own leadership philosophy and style. This is a
companion book to Behavioural Skills for Effective
Policing.             Â

Most people assume that being right should be enough to be followed
and respected as leaders. However, anyone attempting to lead any
type of organization (family, business, sports, etc.) knows by
experience that this is not so. Usually, the blame is placed on
external factors, like the lack of the right team or circumstances.
After several failing experiences, frustration and cynicism creep
in about the possibility of successfully implementing any
improvement initiative. What is the use of being right if nobody
listens to us? What is the point of being wise and powerful if the
rest of the world thinks we are mad? This book summarizes twenty
years of practical experience searching for the most powerful
complements to go beyond "Being right" in order to significantly
improve our performance as leaders and change agents. It explains
how, after developing a good solution, leaders could also be able
to sell their ideas to their own people and create the truly
collaborative working environments in which continuous improvement
can set roots and flourish.

Negotiations and other business maneuvers are like chess: every
move generates a plethora of potential next moves. In Chess and the
Art of Negotiation, a world-renowned chess master and a CEO of a
global company join forces and apply the principles of chess to
illuminate the dynamics of competition and negotiation—from
angling for a promotion to landing the sale. In a colorful
interview format, the authors argue that strategy drives tactics,
and understanding the motivations behind your opponent's strategy
will help you navigate your way through the labyrinth of
possibilities. Drawing from their own experiences in chess and
business, as well as many historical and contemporary examples, the
authors offer insight into the strategic mindset and how to apply
it to any kind of negotation or competitive situation. Not for the
faint of heart, Chess and the Art of Negotiation assumes that in
business, as in any game, there are winners and losers, and aims to
help you prepare for combat and emerge victorious, not vanquished.
Chess is like an intellectual labyrinth; whenever you open a door,
you find yourself facing ten new doors. Negotiations and other
business maneuvers are similar; each decision or action generates
new opportunities. And, like chess, it is more important to
determine the paths not taken. As Richard Nixon taught us: Always
know ahead of time what you don't want. In Chess and the Art of
Negotiation, a world-renowned chess master and a CEO of a global
company combine forces and apply the principles of chess to
illuminate the dynamics of competition, strategy and negotiation,
whether angling for a promotion, beating your arch rival to a
lucrative contract, or landing the sale. In a colorful interview
format, the authors argue that it is not enough to be well prepared
or well informed, nor is it sufficient to be trained in only the
tactical aspects of engagement. Strategy drives tactics, and
understanding the motivations behind your opponent's strategy will
help you navigate your way through the labyrinth. Drawing from
their own experiences in chess and in business, as well as many
historical and contemporary examples, the authors offer insight
into the strategic mindset and how to apply it to any kind of
negotiation or competitive situation. Not for the faint of heart,
Chess and the Art of Negotiation assumes that in business, as in
any game, there are winners and losers, and aims to help you
prepare for combat and emerge victorious, not vanquished.

Author Terry Monroe, an intermediary or business broker, provides
folksy, no-nonsense advice to business owners on how they can avoid
the common pitfalls of selling their businesses while ensuring they
get full value from the years of hard work they've put in. Monroe
has established, operated, and sold businesses for over thirty
years and has owned forty different businesses, including 10
national franchises and a retailer with over 200 retail locations
in 27 states and Canada. He stresses that business owners should
begin preparing themselves and their businesses early and not think
they can just jump into the selling of their business as if they
were selling a car or a house. Information includes how to navigate
the process of selling a business from making the initial decision
to sell-which is the hardest part of all, according to the
author-to getting the business ready, going through due diligence
with the buyer, providing the requisite information, and finally
hiring a team of experts (attorney, accountant, and broker) to help
get to the finish line-the closing. This book will educate sellers
on how to make it through the sale process efficiently and as
stress-free as possible, while netting them top dollar for
themselves and their family
