Second-order Learning in Developmental Evaluation - New Methods for Complex Conditions (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Andrew... Second-order Learning in Developmental Evaluation - New Methods for Complex Conditions (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Andrew Mitchell
R1,521 Discovery Miles 15 210 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book aims to account for how project learning and adaptation occurs through Developmental Evaluation (DE), especially under conditions of uncertainty, complexity and change. Drawing on enactive cognitive science, the author presents a DE framework designed to augment traditional monitoring and evaluation activities. Discussing this framework in detail, the author also reports upon an extended case project investigating the sustainability of a market town in the UK. The framework aims to support the reader in capturing second-order learning and exploring opportunities for innovative responses to dynamic, uncertain and complex operational conditions. Recommendations are offered for future research, and how the framework might be incorporated into the design and funding of projects deployed to work with wicked problems.

Negotiation: From Theory to Practice (Hardcover): Jacques Rojot Negotiation: From Theory to Practice (Hardcover)
Jacques Rojot
R4,350 Discovery Miles 43 500 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Professor Rojot's work links the theory of negotiation to its more practical aspects and bridges the gap between theoretical work and 'how to' manuals. The theoretical analysis is rooted in the field of sociology in general and in the strategic analysis of organisations in particular. This sets it apart from most treatises on negotiation which tend to be based on social-psychology, political science or economics.

Corporate Social Responsibility in India - Some Empirical Evidence (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017): S. Siva Raju Corporate Social Responsibility in India - Some Empirical Evidence (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017)
S. Siva Raju
R2,879 Discovery Miles 28 790 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book presents the authors' recent field experiences of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in different regions of India. It also demonstrates how social auditing and stakeholder mapping help analyze the impact that particular individuals or groups may have on the functioning of any company in an area. CSR is a rapidly growing area of research and activity, especially in developing countries like India. An increasing number of companies are realizing their own social responsibility, given that they work within societal networks. As a result, any initiation or expansion activity they carry out in society impacts the communities around them. Given the newness of the field, the work on CSR in India is still in the initial stages. Most importantly, there is a need to highlight issues concerning CSR activities using sound methodologies and scientific data. A database comprising qualitative and quantitative approaches collected by tracking CSR activities is invaluable. Further the scientific data is vital to fully understand CSR, and in turn helps in designing appropriate and effective interventions for improving community members' quality of life. Accordingly, the stakeholders associated with CSR need to have a sound knowledge of how to conduct studies related to baseline data generation, community needs assessments, community profiling, stakeholder mapping, social impact assessments, monitoring and evaluation, as well as the social auditing of CSR projects and other related issues. This book aptly covers these issues and offers supporting empirical evidences from the field.

Sustainable Marketing - A Holistic Approach (Hardcover): Mark Peterson Sustainable Marketing - A Holistic Approach (Hardcover)
Mark Peterson
R5,258 Discovery Miles 52 580 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Building on the idea that holistic marketing strategies allow firms to assess risk and realise opportunities, this book draws on new research and industry examples to help you recognize effective sustainability practices that benefit companies, stakeholders and society. With an issue-based approach that dissects the interplay between marketing and society, the author encourages readers to critically engage with the changing nature of markets; how companies can adapt to sustainability guidelines and environmental threats while still remaining profitable in today's global market. Using a range of examples including Costco, Juul, Facebook, Patagonia and Bitcoin, Peterson highlights the importance of social issues facing businesses today such as poverty alleviation, the drive towards more 'green' living, corporate social responsibility within firms and political pressures such as emissions guidelines and reducing the global carbon footprint. The Mavericks Who Made It feature also highlights key entrepreneurs throughout history, their key successes and their impact on sustainable marketing.

Beatrice Luceri, Elisa Martinelli
R2,874 Discovery Miles 28 740 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Companies and policy makers are prioritizing environmental, social, and governance goals as part of their strategies. Academic research has started to focus on these issues, but many important matters require deeper investigation and reflection, especially in specific sectors. This book focuses on the sustainability issues within the retailing and services sectors. Starting the discussion around research-knowledge on CSR, the authors discuss the strategic aspects of managing sustainability in retailing and service companies and offer recommendations to effectively manage the marketing levers for sustainability. Readers will benefit from an in-depth analysis of the social responsibility practices of major retailers and their strategies. The authors also take an inside view of CSR by studying the angles of employee perception and job satisfaction, financial performance, and the more recent impact of COVID-19. Using this approach, they highlight the system of relationships existing between stakeholder-related concepts and organizational factors and how they affect sustainability strategy.

The Internet as a Technology-Based Ecosystem - A New Approach to the Analysis of Business, Markets and Industries (Hardcover,... The Internet as a Technology-Based Ecosystem - A New Approach to the Analysis of Business, Markets and Industries (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017)
Nigel Walton
R2,063 Discovery Miles 20 630 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book examines and critiques classical approaches to strategic analysis, whilst exploring alternative methods which utilise ecosystem and platform concepts, as well as chaos and complexity theories. The innovative study provides a critique of the neoclassical Newtonian school of strategy, and proves it to be largely inappropriate as a decision-making methodology in today's internet-based market. By developing a new biological hydrothermal vent model in which analogical comparisons are made with the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector, the chapters challenge existing paradigms of competitive advantage and analyse the extent to which the Internet can be considered to be an ecosystem in its own right. The Internet as a Technology-Based Eco-System offers a range of alternative models and analytical frameworks for the analysis of internet-based technology companies in the twenty-first century, creating a valuable tool for students and academics undertaking research in strategy, technology and electronic engineering.

Jishnu Bhattacharyya, M.S. Balaji, Yangyang Jiang, Jaylan Azer, Chandana R. Hewege
R3,911 Discovery Miles 39 110 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

The book provides an overview of socially responsible consumption and marketing, as well as a collection of teaching cases that discuss and emphasize how 21st-century organizations, both for-profit and non-profit, are addressing socially responsible consumers and meeting their changing needs while remaining profitable. Consumers, governments, academics, and practitioners are becoming more interested in promoting positive social changes through consumption. As a result, this book aims to understand the practice of marketing in bringing about positive social change through real-life case studies. Consumption by socially responsible consumers who care about the social good is unique, not only because of its inter-disciplinary and substantive subject matter but also because it presents challenges and pushes organizations to make significant changes in the ways they have been accomplishing organizational activities in the twenty-first century, from procurement to production to sales and services. The book goes beyond individual consumers and their lifestyles to promote the scope of discussing marketing strategies. It seeks to comprehend how people consume and how socially responsible consumption is conceived. The case studies present and pursue integrated solutions for more sustainable consumption. This is a must-read for marketers who want to reach out to socially responsible consumers.

Sustainable Port Clusters and Economic Development - Building Competitiveness through Clustering of Spatially Dispersed Supply... Sustainable Port Clusters and Economic Development - Building Competitiveness through Clustering of Spatially Dispersed Supply Chains (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2018)
Elvira Haezendonck, Alain Verbeke
R3,125 Discovery Miles 31 250 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book belongs to the Port Economics and Global Supply Chain Management strand of the Palgrave Studies in Maritime Economics book series, commissioned by Hercules Haralambides. This book addresses the strategic alignment between port authorities and their supply chain partners, with a focus on governance challenges. Many port (authority) managers are engaged in efforts to improve their strategic alignment with business partners in their proximate geographic region, yet the economic objectives pursued can vary widely. These objectives can include improvements in port competitiveness and stability of traffic flows, as well as better access to scarce resources such as land and capital, or simply more control over the logistics chain. Using various Benelux seaports as case studies, the authors of this volume show that improving strategic alignment can involve a wide variety of different governance choices, ranging from top-down to bottom-up alliance formation, from project-driven to multi-activity collaboration, and from long-term contracting to full-fledged mergers. This book with state-of-the-art insight on modern port governance will be of interest to port managers around the globe, as well as to lecturers and students in maritime educational programs. Sustainable Negotiation - What Physics Can Teach Us About International Negotiation (Hardcover): Eliane Karsaklian Sustainable Negotiation - What Physics Can Teach Us About International Negotiation (Hardcover)
Eliane Karsaklian
R1,417 Discovery Miles 14 170 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This new and innovative book introduces a new approach to negotiation, where 'Sustainable Negotiation' replaces the old notion of winning. Instead of 'doing a deal' and walking away, negotiation becomes a continuous process of solving problems and creating relationships with no term limits, which better reflects the real world today. Just as we strive to create a sustainable approach to the natural world, we need to do the same with people if we want to keep working together and building a more harmonious business world. The book borrows from the field of physics to make the case that negotiators need to know what is not visible so they can explain what is visible. This alignment gives negotiators the tools to think differently about what they see, helping them to look beyond traditional negotiation techniques and to develop a forward-thinking and sustainable approach to business. Written by a leading international negotiation expert, Sustainable Negotiation introduces a completely new perspective on international negotiation, providing practical, field-tested examples, experiments and guidance to enable readers to implement sustainable negotiation in the real world.

Sustainability and Megaproject Development (Hardcover): Franca Cantoni, Edoardo Favari Sustainability and Megaproject Development (Hardcover)
Franca Cantoni, Edoardo Favari
R4,481 Discovery Miles 44 810 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Megaprojects, also referred to in the literature as Large Engineering Projects or Major Projects, are generally defined as large-scale investment initiatives worth 1bEURO/$ or more and, facing similar problems independent of the country where they are implemented and the industry they belong to. The common feature of most megaprojects is that they are difficult to design and manage so that their realization and completion is always extremely expensive, often over budget and delivery deadlines also are not met. In the worst-case scenario, they remain unfinished. This book, through its multidisciplinary approach, offers food for thought and alternative interpretations for the complex world of megaprojects. While much research has been conducted and differing approaches have been developed over the last 20 years, there is still a lot of debate surrounding the topic, and a holistic approach for effectively managing these initiatives is still missing. What is clear to all researchers and experts in the field is that a traditional-linear management approach is simply not sufficient, as at many stages of a megaproject, iterative and feedback effect occurs due to stakeholder involvement and increasing and continuous interaction between them. The book promotes the debate among all categories of stakeholders involved in the megaproject's supply chain, in order to increase the awareness of complex phenomena relating to the critical issues and common problems they face, all over the world, and to seek performance improvement across the whole life cycle of a megaproject, including the selection, design, construction, operation and de- commissioning. The multidisciplinary approach cultivated in the book conveys an innovative way to study megaprojects and their inherent complexities.

China Counting - How the West Was Lost (Hardcover): A MacKinnon, Barnaby Powell China Counting - How the West Was Lost (Hardcover)
A MacKinnon, Barnaby Powell
R1,533 Discovery Miles 15 330 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

China is now the global counting house, trading Western debt and cashing Western obligations - financially, socially and diplomatically. By 'buying' its own democratic electorate with easy credit, the West has ceded power to the Chinese.
China's primary goal, however, is internal stability and external security, aiming neither for international dominance nor military confrontation. Its governing Party has a national mandate - of, by and for the people - a main street mandate for a resurgent China.
Mackinnon and Powell show how China is determining its destiny. This book interprets China's policy of gradual global expansion and the alternatives it offers to open capitalism and liberal democracy. It sifts constants from variables to reveal a China positioning itself for recognition as an equal.

Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value - A Guide to Lasting Business Deals (Hardcover): Stefanos Mouzas Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value - A Guide to Lasting Business Deals (Hardcover)
Stefanos Mouzas
R4,472 Discovery Miles 44 720 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

Strategic Negotiations for Sustainable Value is a guide to learning how to conclude lasting business deals that are environmentally, socially and economically sustainable in an international business context. Managers today need to negotiate with multiple stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, agencies, governments and authorities, to be able to access the resources that they need. Creating and capturing sustainable value is not a fixed entity but rather the outcome of long and time-consuming negotiations that affect further negotiations. Providing illustrative international case studies throughout each chapter, this book explores: the strategic challenges that managers face in their markets today; the practical, analytical tools that needed to create and capture value that is sustainable; the behavioral biases and cognitive errors in strategic negotiations; the various ways by which negotiators manifest their business agreements in contracts; the managerial implications of strategic negotiations. The book is ideal for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students in negotiation, business administration, management, or related courses such as business marketing, and customer or key account management. It is equally valuable to industry professionals, managers involved in negotiating with customers, suppliers or partners and those pursuing professional qualifications or accreditation in marketing, sales or management.

Redesigning Organizational Sustainability Through Integrated Reporting (Paperback): Fabrizio Grana Redesigning Organizational Sustainability Through Integrated Reporting (Paperback)
Fabrizio Grana
R1,358 Discovery Miles 13 580 Ships in 12 - 19 working days

This book explores the role of accounting and reporting practices, such as corporate and integrated reports, as organizations attempt to represent sustainability. By relying upon the case of a large international oil and gas company and its recent development of integrated reporting, this book argues that the ambiguity of sustainability as a concept, and the impossibility to fully capture it through accounting and reporting practices, does not mean that any attempt to represent it inevitably leads to distortion or obfuscates 'reality'. Rather, the way in which this concept is presented through accounting and reporting practices can have a constructive effect on the organization through the aspirations that these representations entail. The book demonstrates that accounting and reporting practices, such as integrated reporting, are not expected to offer complete representations of organizations' sustainability. Rather, these practices offer a number of representations (e.g. graphs, diagrams, tables, grid) that affect the way in which organizations understand and report on sustainability, changing its meaning over time. Finally, this study demonstrates that undefined concepts, such as 'sustainability', and practices, such as 'integrated reporting', mutually construct each other. The attempt to represent sustainability within the organization and the debates that this process generates, make accounting and reporting practices unfold themselves, and evolve. The book will be of interest to scholars in the field of accounting, management and sustainability, as well as practitioners from a wide array of additional fields, such as planning and control, organizations' strategy, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and corporate reporting.
