Unlocking SME Finance in Asia - Roles of Credit Rating and Credit Guarantee Schemes (Paperback): Naoyuki Yoshino, Farhad... Unlocking SME Finance in Asia - Roles of Credit Rating and Credit Guarantee Schemes (Paperback)
Naoyuki Yoshino, Farhad Taghizadeh-Hesary
R1,228 Discovery Miles 12 280 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

There is limited access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to bank credit. This book proposes new and sustainable models to help ease the access of SMEs to finance and boost economic growth and job creation in Asia. This book looks at the difficulties of SMEs in accessing finance and suggests ways on how to mitigate these challenges. It suggests how we can develop credit information infrastructures for SMEs to remedy the asymmetric information problem and to utilize credit rating techniques for the development of a sustainable credit guarantee scheme. The book provides illustrations of various Asian economies that implemented credit guarantee schemes and credit risk databases and is a useful reference for lessons and policy recommendations.

Globalisation and SMEs in East Asia (Hardcover, illustrated edition): Charles Harvie, Boon-Chye Lee Globalisation and SMEs in East Asia (Hardcover, illustrated edition)
Charles Harvie, Boon-Chye Lee
R3,500 Discovery Miles 35 000 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The 1997 financial and economic crisis in East Asia provided the catalyst for an important reappraisal of the Small and Medium sized Enterprise (SME) sector across the region. In this timely book, a distinguished group of contributors discusses the role of SMEs in the globalisation of the East Asian economies, and assess how the financial crisis has impacted on them. They focus on a number of key aspects of SMEs in the region, including: * financing issues * the role of entrepreneurship * the diffusion of technology in the region * Chinese small businesses * SME requirements for information technology * the opportunities afforded by electronic commerce * regional labour markets and their impact on SMEs. Globalisation and SMEs in East Asia will appeal to academics and researchers of Asian economies and studies, globalisation and those interested in industrial organisation.

Misadventures in Entrepreneuring - The truth about how it feels to run your own business (Paperback): Lucy-Rose Walker, Mann Misadventures in Entrepreneuring - The truth about how it feels to run your own business (Paperback)
Lucy-Rose Walker, Mann
R355 Discovery Miles 3 550 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Misadventures in Entrepreneuring (R) is the brainchild of Gayle Mann and Lucy-Rose Walker who were personally involved in the start-up, growth and eventual sale of Entrepreneurial Spark. They have experienced their own 'misadventures' as well as the many misadventures of the 4000+ entrepreneurs they have worked with along the way, most of which were entirely psychological. It focuses on the psychology of entrepreneuring (R) and how crucial it is to getting in, and out, of many of the most common misadventures. Dispelling myths about the daily challenges entrepreneurs face, and providing reassurance and inspiration, Misadventures in Entrepreneuring (R) delivers support and guidance to entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes through the authors' story and those of many other entrepreneurs as they cope day to day. If you feel like your business has taken over your life, if you love what you do but struggle to juggle all your priorities, if you sometimes forget what you dreamed of when you started - this book is for you.

Corporate Citizenship and Family Business (Hardcover): Claire Seaman Corporate Citizenship and Family Business (Hardcover)
Claire Seaman
R3,877 Discovery Miles 38 770 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Current models of corporate citizenship largely consider business as one coherent entity. This view of business as a corporate force overlooks the growing evidence that most businesses are run by families. Family businesses are the most common form of business in existence - across countries, continents and geopolitical divides - and yet we know remarkably little about their approach to corporate citizenship. Where families run businesses, they create a concentration of family values that - for good or ill - influence the way business practices and behaviours develop. The role of the family in business has, therefore, an influence on the development of society that is partially mediated through corporate citizenship. This book pulls together current thinking from several diverse research fields that intersect with family business research to offer insight into current research and examples of practice for those studying and researching in the fields of family business, business values and corporate practice. The book will also explore the fact that family businesses tend to take a longer-term approach to business and that this is reflected in their behaviour towards the environment, community engagement, employee development and innovation. Bringing together contributions from researchers in the diverse fields of family business, philanthropy, community engagement, corporate social responsibility, innovation and policy, this book explores the many ways in which family businesses contribute to the corporate citizenship agenda.

Periphery and Small Ones Matter - Interplay of Policy and Social Capital (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Iwan J. Azis Periphery and Small Ones Matter - Interplay of Policy and Social Capital (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Iwan J. Azis
R1,533 Discovery Miles 15 330 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This open access book analyzes the dualism and inequality insofar as how it is manifested in interregional disparity and small enterprises. Using the case of Indonesia, the author considers how the general direction of policy should be to mitigate the effects of agglomeration forces leading towards concentration, and exploit the same forces by encouraging small businesses to operate in a cluster for collective action. The book addresses these issues by focusing on the role of interactions between policies and institutions, of which social capital is an important part. This is an open access book.

R1,542 Discovery Miles 15 420 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Through in-depth interviews with expatriate entrepreneurs, policymakers, and additional stakeholders it provides the reader with a solid understanding of the current landscape of international entrepreneurship as it relates to Japan and the challenges for policymakers. The topics addressed in this book include definitions of expatriate entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship policy development and implementation, concepts of mindset, cultural brokerage, community, and identity as they relate to Japanese self-initiated expatriate entrepreneurs working in South East Asia and to non-Japanese self-initiated expatriate entrepreneurs working in Japan. Additionally, the book provides an overview of issues connected to regional development and economic growth in Asia. Illustrated through carefully chosen cases from Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia and developed by connecting these cases to policy and interdisciplinary studies, this book is highly recommended to scholars, policymakers and practitioners who seek an in-depth and up-to-date integrated overview of the field of expatriate entrepreneurship in Asia.

Developing Next Generation Leaders for Transgenerational Entrepreneurial Family Enterprises (Hardcover): Pramodita Sharma,... Developing Next Generation Leaders for Transgenerational Entrepreneurial Family Enterprises (Hardcover)
Pramodita Sharma, Nunzia Auletta, Rocki-Lee DeWitt, Maria Jose Parada, Mohar Yusof
R3,148 Discovery Miles 31 480 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

An impressive team of editors from Asia, Europe, North and South America has compiled cutting-edge research on family businesses. In these chapters, we gain a global perspective of the entrepreneurial approaches families are taking to prepare the next generation of leaders. We learn strategies for family firms to survive and prosper. And we find there are lessons here that non-family businesses can apply to make transitions successful.' - Francis Hoy, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, USThis illustrative book considers the interface of business structures, contexts, and leadership building blocks to explore the contingent nature of leadership development in transgenerational entrepreneurship. Longitudinal case studies of 27 family firms in nine different countries provide a rich, global selection of leadership development insights by examining the roles of values, professionalization, leadership style and other contingent factors. The diversity of cases and chapters provides a rich foundation for insight into the pathways currently in use to develop the next generation leaders, illuminating the strategies and pathways of successful transgenerational family enterprises. By examining the available literature and one or more case studies, each chapter draws pragmatic conclusions, with findings that suggest the importance of focusing on leadership as a shared capability, transmission of values to maintain an entrepreneurial culture, the fit between professionalization and values to increase transgenerational potential, the need to address the structure of the business and the focus on parenting to develop next generations. This path-breaking book will inform family business researchers as they explore the ways in use to develop the next generation. Each chapter starts with a mini-case study focused on a dilemma related to leader development, making this book an excellent resource for educators in undergraduate, graduate, or executive programs. Innovation and Export - The Joint Challenge of the Small Company (Hardcover): M Enjolras Innovation and Export - The Joint Challenge of the Small Company (Hardcover)
M Enjolras
R3,681 Discovery Miles 36 810 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The concepts of innovation and export are traditionally considered in isolation, both within companies and within the support organizations dedicated to them. As a result, within this broad research field, very little academic work has focused on how to implement their relationship at an operational level. This book proposes a joint diagnostic tool for SMEs, highlighting good practices to be mastered in order to simultaneously improve innovation and export performance, in the form of a virtuous circle. Innovation and Export focuses on the integration of innovation and export into the strategic management of SMEs, for which the use of synergies is a powerful lever to overcome any difficulties in mobilizing significant resources.

Corporate Social Responsibility and SMEs - Impacts and Institutional Drivers (Hardcover): Johan J. Graafland Corporate Social Responsibility and SMEs - Impacts and Institutional Drivers (Hardcover)
Johan J. Graafland
R3,896 Discovery Miles 38 960 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The world's people and their leaders face a complex and multifaceted set of 'eco-social questions'. As the productivity of humanity increases, the negative external environmental effects of production and consumption patterns become increasingly problematic and threaten the human welfare. As the regulating power of national and international governments is limited, this challenge has generated a strong interest in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) of companies. Firms find it increasingly important to meet the expectations of stakeholders with respect to the company's contribution to profit, planet, and people. The primary aim of this book is to introduce the reader to the impacts and drivers of CSR, with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Research into the social and environmental impacts of CSR is rare. This is a serious gap because if CSR were to fail to have favourable social and environmental impacts on society, the whole concept may become redundant. If societal impacts of CSR are substantial, it is important to know the drivers of CSR. This book considers (1) factors internal to the company, (2) the competitive environment of the company, (3) institutions external to the company, and (4) how the impacts of institutions are mediated or moderated by company internal factors. This book will fill this gap by estimating various types of models that integrate external and internal factors driving CSR and its impacts on environment, innovation, and reputation, making it a valuable resource for researchers, academics, and students in the fields of business management and CSR.

The Search for Entrepreneurship - Finding More Questions Than Answers (Paperback): Simon Bridge The Search for Entrepreneurship - Finding More Questions Than Answers (Paperback)
Simon Bridge
R696 Discovery Miles 6 960 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Since the 1980s, governments have often sought to encourage entrepreneurship on the assumption that it creates small businesses which are the primary drivers of job creation. Largely because of this assumption, entrepreneurship has become a valid subject for academic research attracting extensive funding. Yet despite this explosion of scholarship, there is no accepted model of how entrepreneurship operates or even a commonly accepted definition of what it is. Simon Bridge posits that this is because entrepreneurship has been studied as if it were a deterministic science, based on the false assumption that it exists as a specific discrete identifiable phenomenon operating in accordance with consistent, predictable 'rules'. This challenging book contends that this misdirected search has produced more questions than answers. Accepting that entrepreneurship as we have conceived it does not exist could lead to new and valuable insights into what the different forms of entrepreneurship are and how they might be influenced. Scholars, advanced students and policy makers will find this a thought-provoking insight into the myths and misconceptions of 'entrepreneurship'.
