Brennan Dauberman 1
R120 Discovery Miles 1 200 In stock

Addiction has become an epidemic in our society that is destroying the lives of people around the world at a rapidly increasing rate. When families have a loved one or even a friend who has been drawn into the world of drugs and alcohol addiction, or addiction of any kind, they are faced with the same challenging questions: is there a way out? Can a person truly break free from the bondage of addiction? The answer is YES YOU CAN!

Addiction of any kind can be beaten. There is hope and there is a way. The journey of recovery is a process of rebuilding every aspect of an individual’s life. It’s the exciting journey of discovering who you really are and who God created you to be. No matter how bad the situation, God has a plan to restore and redeem the life of an addict. Your best life is just one decision away! Brennan was addicted to drugs and alcohol for 15 years before he gave his life to Christ. He has overcome drug and alcohol addiction and has been sober for the past 13 years. This book is a practical guide of his first-hand experience and his personal journey in overcoming addiction. May God bless you and empower you to overcome as you read this book!

CRC is a dynamic, vibrant, growing group of churches that is making an impact in thousands of people’s lives all over the world. Pastor At Boshoff is the founder and visionary leader of CRC nationally and internationally. Brennan is serving in full time pastoral ministry, in the CRC vision, under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Schroder (Senior Pastor of CRC Durban, Ballito and Hillcrest) for the past 13 years.

How to find peace in a restless world, from the UK's leading yoga nidra practitioners. We live in a restless society. Even the things we do to relax and restore ourselves have become competitive, often played out and packaged for social media. We're on a constant mission to fix, refine and improve ourselves, endlessly consuming spiritual catchphrases, sharing images of physical perfection and analysing ourselves from every angle. But what if feeling OK, feeling `sorted' and feeing complete was possible without you having to do anything? What if all this doing is what's stopping you from actually being? What if that perfect vision of yourself in the future was already here right now? If you took a moment to stop, completely, then you'd see that what lies at the very core of your being is already perfectly at ease, perfectly peaceful, and perfectly OK. The Book of Rest is a guide born out of the philosophies and practices of yoga nidra (`sleep yoga') enabling the reader to recognise, allow and use rest to connect with their deepest, always-at-peace self.

Sleeping pill prescriptions have increased dramatically over the last three decades, as have the incidence of sleep clinics. Sleep used to be a natural state, easy as breathing, but increasingly it is an insecure commodity. ...Isn't it? Our relationship to sleep surfaces and resurfaces throughout human history, each time telling us something new about our indivudual and collective psychology. From the industrial revolution to blue-light on our phones, from the ancient art of dream interpretation to the modern science of Freud, sleep is connected to wider social patterns, to shifting norms and expectations. Weaving together cultural, social, economic and psychoanalytic influences, Darian Leader delves into the truth about this universal human experience.

An intense, lyrical, witty, and humane exploration of a state we too often consider only superficially. With her new memoir Insomnia, Marina Benjamin has produced an unsettling account of an unsettling condition that treats our inability to sleep not as a disorder, but as an existential experience that can electrify our understanding of ourselves, and of creativity and love. Insomnia is a bravura piece of writing. At once philosophical and poetical, the book ranges widely over history and culture, literature and art, exploring a threshold experience that is intimately involved with trespass and contamination: the illicit importing of day into night. With Insomnia, Benjamin aims to light up the workings of our inner minds, delivering a startlingly fresh look at what it means to be wakeful in the dark.

Howard Farkas; Foreword by Babette Rothschild
R294 Discovery Miles 2 940 Shipped within 7 - 11 working days

Traditional diet books focus on meal plans, low- calorie solutions and quick fixes. But these approaches just treat the symptoms, not the cause- which leads many dieters to return to their bad habits. Howard S. Farkas, who has more than two decades of professional and teaching experience in clinical psychology, digs deeper by looking at the single greatest cause of overeating: our emotions. Emotional eaters- those who eat in response to feelings rather than hunger-usually understand basic nutrition and how to control their weight. They may take charge of every other aspect of their life, but still feel helpless against the emotional barriers keeping them from healthy eating. 8 Keys to End Emotional Eating provides a detailed plan for overcoming these barriers. By exploring the causes that drive the desire to over eat, Farkas develops practical skills to manage this desire on a daily basis. His road map for the future will help readers maintain healthy eating habits for years to come.

The education system in South Africa is struggling to help learners to develop their full potential, particularly those from poor and rural communities. Research has shown that a lack of communication skills has become a major challenge and a barrier to learning for many learners. The current situation in this country requires us to consider not only children who have specific communication impairments, but also those battling to develop communication skills when their situation places them at a severe disadvantage. Speech-language therapy in a school context is a much-needed academic text for training students in speech-language therapy and audiology to work effectively in an educational environment. Speech-language therapy in a school context promotes collaborative practices among professionals, including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, learning support therapists and teachers, while reinforcing the ethical principles and practices required by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. It provides theory and practical guidelines in line with the Revised National Curriculum Statement and is supported by interactive learning activities. Chapters include the following: Speech-language therapy in a multicultural context; Inclusive education in South Africa; Communication as a critical resource for everyday living, learning and earning; Institutional language policies: the South African Schools Act; Multilingualism and primary language impairment; Ensuring culture-fair assessment and intervention; Integrated classroom-based speech-language services; Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems; Educational psychology in South Africa. Speech-language therapy in a school context is aimed at students in speech-language therapy and audiology and is also a valuable foundational text for practicing therapists.

What's Wrong with Addiction. (Hardcover, New of "The Anc): Helen Keane What's Wrong with Addiction. (Hardcover, New of "The Anc)

R1,970 Discovery Miles 19 700 Shipped within 7 - 11 working days

"Keane's work is thoughtful and thought provoking and incorporates elements of medical history and philosophy."--"Psychiatric Services"

"A theoretically engaging exploration of the arbitrariness of the field of addiction studies."
--Robert Granfield, co-author of "Coming Clean"

We assume that there is something wrong with addiction. But how exactly is it bad to be an addict? What's Wrong with Addiction? explores the ways in which our views of addiction categorize certain ways of being as unnatural, diseased, and self-destructive, often working to reinforce existing social hierarchies. Under the rubric of addiction, pleasure and desire are demonized, while the addict is viewed as damaged and in need of physical and moral rectificaiton.

Keane examines the ambiguities in medical science's quest to construct addiction in chemical and biological terms, revealing the strains in the oppositions between disease and health, and addiction and normality. She demonstrates how these strains have become more insistent as the net of addiction has spread wider, moving beyond chemical substances to other problems of consumption and conduct such as compulsive eating and sex addiction. The book also critically examines the ideals of health, freedom, and happiness found in popular self-help literature, suggesting that it is the practices of self-surveillance and self-interrogation promoted in recovery guides which actually produce the inner self as an object of concern.

Eating disorders present diagnostic and treatment challenges to clinicians. While such disorders need both medical and psychological treatment, patients may be too medically ill for a thorough psychiatric evaluation and may be misunderstood by many primary care physicians. In this revised and updated edition of "Eating Disorders," Philip S. Mehler and Arnold E. Andersen provide a user-friendly and comprehensive guide for primary care physicians, mental health professionals, and others who encounter individuals with the problem.

Mehler and Andersen identify common medical complications that people who have eating disorders face and answer questions about how to treat them. They also cover such serious complications as osteoporosis, cardiac arrhythmia, electrolyte abnormalities, immune compromise, and gastrointestinal sequelae. Incorporating case studies, medical background on the complications, suggestions for diagnosis and treatment, and a list of selected references, chapters cover important topics including team treatment and nutritional rehabilitation. The authors also address special areas of concern, such as athletes who have eating disorders and the pharmacologic treatment of obesity.

Mehler and Andersen encourage close medical follow-up for patients who have eating disorders. This book will help primary care and mental health professionals to understand and to more effectively address the complex concerns of patients with eating disorders.

This richly illustrated book provides a detailed description of the gross anatomy, light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and electron microscopy of the adipose organ, which comprises subcutaneous and visceral fat depots. Findings in mice of differing genetic backgrounds (obesity prone and resistant) and maintained in standard and various physiologic and pathologic conditions are presented. The latter conditions include chronic cold exposure, warm exposure, fasting, pregnancy-lactation, and obesity. Features of the fetal adipose organ are described in a separate chapter, and results from transgenic mice are also presented when relevant. The human adipose organ is addressed in several chapters that include magnetic resonance and fetal findings. Most of the results regarding the adipose organ anatomy in different physiologic conditions are new, and the story of pink adipocytes (white-to-pink transdifferentiation) is quite innovative. The concept of using browning of the adipose organ as a therapeutic tool for obesity must take into consideration the anatomic and morphologic aspects described here, and the study of pink adipocytes could lead to a better comprehension of breast cancer tumor biology. This book will be of interest to all scientists who deal with obesity and related disorders.
